Default Do I have a problem w/ tranny or rear end??

I have about 16,000 on my 04 Z06, and have noticed a medium pitch humming/ whirring noise coming from rear of car. Not really loud, but noticable. It will do it in reverse or forward gears. Standing still or moving. Pushing clutch in and out will sometimes make it pause for a half of a second or so, then start back up. Every thing seems to work okay, but worried none the less. Anybody else had this happen, and what did it lead to. Thanks, R. Ford

Ralph,
If with the clutch in the noise stops, it is probably prop shaft related.........If your warranty is still intact, just bring it........ Or just bring it even if it isn't under warranty still.

I am sure we could find some other things to do in addition

That's kind of what I was thinking too. The pumps are pretty quiet, but it could be that.

If it does it when it's sitting still, it's not the diff...cause it ain't turning.

My best guess is that you have something vibrating (maybe the E-brake cable or something like that), and when you push the clutch in, it might "relax" the driveline a little, but then, the engine vibrations could cause it.

If it still runs fine and you haven't felt anything funky, just turn up the radio and put some miles on that thing!

Another thing I thought of...since it has such low mileage... you could have some critters habitating under the car...or dirt dobbers... pick your critter of choice.
