Default Drive DAYTONA DE (really!) Dec 8-9

Just a friendly FYI,

Our local Audi Chapter (Ohio Valley) has convinced DAYTONA
that they should allow the club to put on
the first DE ever at that track!

http://ohio.audiclubna.org/events_cal.html

This is the first and only opportunity to run the high banks (if you're not
a pro or hold a comp license)

Sceduled for December 8 and 9 (instructors also run on the 7th with
instruction with PROS like David Roush, Mike Galatti, Tommy Byrne, Mark Sandridge, etc)

We may have / can arrange / car transports booked to go down for a reasonable fee - if you prefer to "fly in, arrive and drive"

Should be awesome - hope to see you there

Deetz

Can you say "Oh my!"

I assume you still have spots open.
Do you have to have an instructor.
What are the qualifications to be an instructor.

Thanks

How much track time? The entry fee and club membership cost sum is not insignificant. Gotta figure out $/mile or $/hour.

Re: Instrutors - Since no one has run this track before in a DE, we are all going to be "learning" the track.

Of course, Pro's and Comp License holders have, in which case they will probably be instructors themselves.

Re: price - Have any idea how much it is to rent this track? Unbelievable. In my personal opinion, this is a "priceless" opportunity! Never before has this track be accessible. Now it is!

Regards,

Deetz.

Audi Club started to promote this event at the APRIL VIR event.

They even gave instructors a $100 discount at that time.

Lets see:

Cons

Walls - lots of walls
Banked track- oil falls to left side of block unless you have an accu or dry sump
No inner tire liners. flat tire forces car UP THE BANK in walls
Not easy driving bank.
Have to readjust camber on left side wheels to zero and right side to a max of -1* for banking

PROs

It is DAYTONA

100 students and 100 instructors. Figure 5 run groups, three for students and 2 for instructors.

I am in. I was going to do Road Atlanta, but $325 for one 4 session day sucks. This is not a bad deal for Daytona! Is it their road course? Can you have passengers? We need info!

Road Course No passengers. Only instructors may carry passengers with the Audi events.

My guess if it is like other Audi events, Four 25 min sessions per day.

But best to contact the event master.

Default Updates

To answer some of your questions - Worth every penny! I drive a Porsche 911TT and to get over 30 sec of WOT is unreal - nowhere else:

Standard DE format.

4 run groups.

30 minute sessions.

90-120 minutes per group per day (sat/sun).

Friday is familiarization day for students/instructors/pros.

Audi Club instructors and instructors with other clubs may instruct.

Solo drivers just need to be checked out and signed off by an instructor.
----

Update on the PRO's teaching on Friday:

Michael Galati, Jeff Segal, Joe Varde, Mark Sandridge Dave Roush, Tommy Byrne, maybe a couple of the Statis guys... Maybe even some surprise celebrities...

Still looking for participants and instructors - Please spread the word, and maybe even let your DE chairs or Chief Instructor know, as we are encouraging instructors to attend.

Update on questions and administration:
you can post here, and I'll try to find the answer, or
email direct to the even chairs:
Craig Liechty craigliechty@hotmail.com
Dave Pierson dave.pierson@magnetwork.org

Looking forward to seeing all you guys there:

events are 275-325 for one day in the NE so 999 for three days is in line. I would love to run a banking like that. I went to my only NASCAR race and was walking on the banking . I use to go there for bikes races in the 70's awesome. What is the course?

All spots still open - instructor and student.

I'm kinda surprised that the event hasn't sold out the
minute it was posted (I know about the cost, but this
is an opportunity - the ultimate DE)

The Big track, with bus-stop and infield

This is basically the Rolex 24 hour course.
