Default SCCA solo racers

Who in here runs their Vette in the SCCA solo events? I'd like to know what mods you did that worked and are you having as much fun as you thought you would. Also a contact name would be helpful for the Northern Va area.

I'm thinking of starting to run that event in my 94 next year

Thanks and Race on!

NoVa would be the WDCR division - http://www.wdcr-scca.org/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

There are still a few events this season at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.

Just about nothing. It's a stock auto trans 94 with "0" options. No FX3 or Z51. The only things that I have done to the Vette are 9.5 five spoke wheels all around and a cut lid air filter. Other than keeping it in tip top shape with oil and brake fluid flush's its a stocker, no mods to the motor or susp.

That's why I asked. A cut air lid moves you out of A stock and into B Street Prepared. The first thing you may want to do is find a stock replacement for your air lid.

Here's the best thread on the internet regarding C4s for A stock: http://sccaforums.com/forums/thread/197098.aspx

Have fun!

The 9.5" front wheels will keep you out of stock as well, since the car wasn't equipped with them from the factory.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to move up a class then
This will be a learning process this winter until the first or second event in 08

I look froward to learning as much as I can from the fine motorhead folks in here, any info and websites you can give me will help

Thanks, Larry

Find "Shrek" here on the forum. He can tell you about local SCCA & NCCC events in Va. & the upper part of NC.
He is a "Ratpacker" that will be glad to help you out.

What if the 9.5's came on the upgrade suspension, or is SCCA that strict about it that you need that susp. too?

9.5 wheels were standard on the conv and I think as an option with a beefier susp package that year

If the car didn't come from the factory with the optional suspension, you have to upgrade to the entire package. You can't just add 9.5" front wheels to a base car because the Z07/Z51 came with them.

If you don't care about class competition, you can always tell them at registration that you'd like your runs ot be scored as "fun runs." All that means is that your name/times wouldn't be directly grouped with any of the regular classes.

Ripken might be a little far from NoVa, depending on where you are axactly, but the Autocrossers, Inc. events are worth the drive, IMO. They have two left this year; Nov. 4 and 10.

Keep an eye on the WDCR page for info about next year's schedule at FedEx Field and details about how and when to register for events. It's one of the best sites on the east coast and the courses are usually fantastic.

This is the last year for Ripkin, FWIW.

Thanks for the info everyone, I'll start running events out at FedX field next year. Right now I'm just starting to put the info together.

My goal is to meet some nice people, have fun making the runs...in what ever class I end up in and learning what I can about performance driving

Here's the poop on the wheels per the SCCA rules for stock:

"Any wheel of diameter and width identical to a stock or factory optional wheel, offset within +- 0.25 inch"

That rule alone moves me up a class

I have to say thanks for the help everyone, I'm learning something from every web site I'v been linked to

Also thanks to the folks that IM'd me info. I think I'm really going to have some fun in SOLO come 08
