Nissan GT-R 7:38 at the ring is real.... video

Sure, a 7:38:54... if you ignore the good 3 seconds shaved by ending that time well before crossing the original timing light which is clearly at the end of the blue straight wall @ 1:06 into the video. Nevermind that this is clearly a prototype mule with datalogging and a 4 point harness inside, no telling what caliber of rubber and what tune it might have. The car is an impressive gizmo, but its a damn heavy one and doubtful to outdue the times of cars more powerful and much lighter than it on the same track under similar conditions.

indeed, Ive been really interested in this car for the last couple years, but theres just no excuse for that much pork, even if its AWD, it still weight 600lbs more than my STI, and with two less doors! Where the hell are they hiding all that weight??

Here is proof of the RE70 tires. Guys look in the video at what # GT-R set the record...it was #33.
Here is the tread pattern of the RE070
Finally a screen grab showing tread pattern not race slicks
FYI when Jan was driving the C6Z at the ring he had a Sparco Evo 2 in it w/ harnesses
The car is heavy because it's got a fancy inteerior, AWD, 4WS, twin turbos etc.
Some cool cut aways:

I dont really care if it really did go that fast or faster, the Ring is a nice little benchmark but its really pointless to debate about a whether or not it was a few seconds off, all I needed to see was that cars listed curb weight. I driven plenty of heavy fast cars and plenty of light fast cars and I can assure you there is a very tangible difference in how it feels to drive a light fast car over a heavy fast car. Your connection to the road and the car decreases proportionately as weight increases, even if the heavier car is faster by the numbers than the lighter car. Its hard to describe but if you get a chance to drive an elise for a while you will see theres alot more to weight that you just cant compensate for by throwing more power/brakes/suspension at it

IMO the 220 treadwear runflats vs the 140 treadwear Bridgestones easily accounts for more than those 3.5sec.

Wait until the tuners uncork this thing. This is just the base car. The last GT-R (R34) was legendary and it only had a 2.5L I6 with twin turbos. I've seen tuners get over 1000hp with it and with AWD, you can use a lot of it.
I also think that Nissan will eventually come out with different flavors of this car with more power, like they did with the last one.
This engine is the same size as the Regal GN (3.8L) and you saw what that car could do with a single turbo and 20 year old technolgy.

I just want the car to be tested independantly. If it can win on tracks around the world in same day same track same driver configurations, it has earned something, but Nissan has long showed they'll do whatever it takes to get a faster lap than (insert name here).
Yes you can see the car in the garage, but you dont know that is the same car driving as there is no external video to see camber, tires etc. And there is never a way to tell if it was stock hp, but this car does the back straight much faster than the Z06 did in sport autos hands and got 176 mph, with 480 hp and almost 4k lbs with driver.
The tires are specially designed from an already very sticky runflat. I dont care if Nissan maximizes their car and beats the Z06, but trying to consider them in the same league on the track is rediculous.
I have some fanboys calling me out now and look forward to seeing some GT-R's on the track.

Coolest Guy Evar!
Why are so many displeased with this car and skeptical about its performance???
I think the Nissan GT-R is great and certainly carries on the tradition of the GT-R's of the 90's.

I did a little searching and found out that they will offer a Spec-V version about a year after the launch of the base GT-R.

I'm not skeptical about its performance, I'm just tired of so many people thinking the GTR is the end-all be-all of street cars. I even come from an import background and it gets really old.
Bottom line is that this will be a tremendously fast but way too heavy car for my tastes, I've never liked the feel of flogging 3500+ lb cars no matter how fast they are. Weight is the ultimate enemy to performance of any kind, they should have gone the way of the NSX, 3rd gen RX7 and Corvette Z06 by removing weight to gain performance.
