Rookie Of The Year Corvette Driver Brian Kubinski! LG Motorsports...Nice Job! PICS
You may remember I posted recently that Brian Kubinski was vying for Rookie of the year in World Challenge.
The final tally of points do not tell the entire story.
Kubinski needed more points than Jeffrey Robbins to wrap up Rookie Of The Year. With Kubinski in the LG #28 Holinger it seemed like a done deal.
Not so fast...................
Early in the race Kubinski was hit from behind which seemed to have resulted in the car sustaining 2 issues.
If you look at the notes of the race, Kubinski went off briefly in turn 6 and re-entered. It turns out after being hit, the accelerator would not return from the floor. Of course the first time this was realized by Kubinski, it was too late, hence turn 6. He made a great recovery and from there on out, pulled the go pedal up with his foot as needed.
The 2nd issue was the shifter linkage. Kubinski was forced to complete the race in one gear, 3rd! At that racing level it's amazing he held his ground
While Kubinski was nursing the car, Lou and company were on the radio giving Kubinski advice on possible remedies. Imagine driving the car and simultaneously trying different things to fix the car.
Kubinski ended up with the same points as Robbins, but had more top finishes and wrapped up Rookie! It would have never come down to it had Kubinski not been hit.
Here are a few cool pics Lou was kind enough to send my way!

A big congratulations to Brian Kubinski and a special acknowledgement to Lou and Staff at LG Motorsports for being a class act, professional and supportive.
Look for Kubinski to be in more top finishes in the future and support to Lou as he tackles GT2 with a vengeance!

Hi Guys,
It was a pleasure working with Brian. He has alot of Raw talent and with the right situation he can wins some races in the World Challenge.
Brian got hit on the first lap by, of all cars, one of my old C6 cars driven by Foster. But in Foster's defense, a Viper hit him first and pushed him into Brian in turn 4 and into the gravel trap.
Brian used his head and used reverse since his rear tires were not all the way in the gravel, and got the car out of the trap without going down a lap.
The shifter problem was a result of the stock GM part of the shifter box on the torque tube breaking. The aluminum shifter mount on the torque tube broke. We put a new one on before it got put in the trailer. Too bad it didn't break in practice.
At any rate, Brian was able to hold on to his position and keep the Rookie Championship for him self.
Congratulations to Brian. Keep up the good work.
See you at the races.

I have to say that it is "weird" to see my car in a photo with another name on it!
I have only been married one time to one woman but this must be like seeing your wife or girlfriend out with another man.
Sorry, I just had to say it.
Congratulations again to Brian. I know you treated "HER" well.

Seems a shame from what I can gather the car was really dialed in with
engine management, trans, additional downforce just in time for Lou to leave SWC. Will Brian race it next year? Good Luck to Lou, I will follow you in ALMS!
