c5- best size autox tire
I'm sorry, I tried searching. I'm sure this has been asked....
What size tire is best for autocrossing on the stock rims on a c5? The scca rulebook says stock class doesn't allow for a change in wheel size, and I just bought some z06 wheels too!
Thank you!!

The only non-Z06 C5 to win the National SCCA SS championship ran on Hoosier 275/17's and 285/18s. But you'll have to turn off the computer because it thinks the rear tires are spinning because of the small diameter.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Run the 295 Hoosiers at the rear and you will not have any problems with the PCM. If your area has a street tire class you can run the Falken Azenis 615 or the BFG KD.

so the suggestion would be 275/40/17 on the fronts and 295/35/18 on the rear? Are the ratios 40f/35r correct?
I (think) I heard that 275f/315r won't set the TC but 275f/305r does but I don't know what those ratios are. Is 295 as wide as I should go, I was thinking more tread would be better (305/315).
Also I have no idea the maximum that fits on a 17x8.5 or a 18x9.5 would be. All the guys up here run Z06's and seem to prefer the Kumho 710's (Washington State).
Thanks!!

I'm running 275/305 Toyo RA-1s on wagon wheels right now. Wear seems to be pretty even across the face of the tire. Like normal, I'll have to flip them once during their life to get the most out of them.
HTH, and have a good one,

Hello-----McFly
H O O S I E R............came out on top at the solo nationals in Topeka.
In just about every freakin class.
PS---did you happen to notice that the GRM test was a 285 on a 8" wheel---the 285 is gigantic compared to the others..
Bottom line BS test..........

It's just that those nimnods at GRM couldn't do a unbiased test if there lives depended on it.
Can you say one GIANT AD.
You could pick a tire just as good as GRM did---all you have to do is put on a blindfold and throw darts at the wall.
PS---I do subscribe. I like the mag in general. Tests are worthless.
Actually less than worthless, because if someone makes a purchasing decision based on their test, then hello mistake city.

I've run Hoosier A3SO4s 275/305 on stock C5 wagon wheels. They will go on, but be prepared to hear the mounting guy whine. The rear will rub. A 1/8" spacer was needed. Had a local machine shop make a couple of them out of sheet stock with their CNC abrasive jet cutting machine.
Had a lot of fun at Pocono north course last April with this combination.
