Default Bilstein Sport or 04 Z06 shocks on C5

I have base suspension on my C5 track car.
I've added Z06 sway bars - made a big difference.

I want to upgrade the shocks but need help deciding between Bilstein Sport shocks or 04 Z06 shocks.

I might get coilovers someday - but that will be a year or two away.

I haven't run Bilsteins but I have the 04' shocks and T-1 bars with a track alignment and the set-up works quite well.

I have the C6 Z06 shocks and they were great at Mid Ohio. They are almost half the cost of the 04Z06 Shocks and they bolt right up.

OK that adds another option to the list.

I'm assuming the C6 Z06 shock is an improvement over the 04 Z06 shock.

So it is between the C6 Z06 and Bilstein Sport shocks.

Shocks will certainly help, but the "base" suspension springs are almost dangerously soft in my opinion.

Good luck with your car.

That's on my list to replace as well.
So many mods - never enough $$$.

I'm prioritizing my wish list.

i switched out my 07 Z shocks for bilstein sports. def improvement. a bit stiffer but more supple and controlled

the bilstein is a superior shock, both from a design and performance point of view.

Add the Koni FSD to your list of considerations as well. They're pretty awesome.

I've run Bilstein Sports and 02 and 04 Z06 shocks and my choice is the 04's. This was on a stock Z06 (at the time) lowered on stock bolts with a track alignment. Go with either the Bilstein Sports or the 04's.
Good Luck.

I vote for the Bilstein Sports too, for multiple reasons...

- They are engineered for the geometry of the C5, unlike the C6 Z06 shocks.
- They can be found for ~$300 for a full set, unlike the 04Z shocks.
- They (supposedly) have shorter valving than 04Z or C6 Z06 shocks, so they work better for lowered cars like mine.
- I installed them on my 02Z and felt a vast improvement in handling, expecially at speed.

hope that helps!

3/4" shorter, so if you go with the 04 Z06 on a lowered car eliminate the bump stops.

I installed the Bilstein Sport shocks and like the way they control the car. Firm on the street but not abusive, and they work great on the track in conjunction with the Hotchkiss sway bars. My vote is for the Bilsteins.
