Anyone Try the Toyo R888?
Info about the tire:
http://www.toyo.com/docs/tires/tires...&category=comp
Seems like it's readily available but pricey

I have been on it, but in an AWD car. We tested it back to back with the Hoosier R6, and both tires gave identical grip levels mid-corner, but the turn-in characteristics were a bit different. The R888, like the Toyo RA1 has a softer sidewall than the Hoosier, and would corner at a higher slip angle, and therefor was a little "softer" on turn-in. The Hoosier felt much more crisp.
I spent one Autocross, and two time trial days on them, and didn't get a good comparison for life expectancy, though they didn't seem to fall off in that amount of time by a huge amount. It was hot enough in July at CMP to get them greasy in 5-6 laps though.

I am not sure, but since I have the same setup as David, but I have Michelin Cups (that need replacing), it would be an interesting comparison. I wish I knew someone at Toyo....

Would be very interesting to see a real world test, ditch the MPC and try the Toyo R888.
Let us know how it turns out :-)
Toyo seems to be more of a street tire, rain or dry than MCPC ?

David seems to be happy with the grip even though he has more power than I have, and they look like they have some wet weather capability. I just ordered some Hoosier R6's (295F, 345R)for track use.

It looks like the R888 has more size options in 18"-19" which I was looking for. The snippets of review I could find say they are better than the RA-1, but how much better? Worth the additional cost? Not sure. If you look at retail prices of the two, the RA-1 is about $60 cheaper than the R888 but since the RA-1 has been around a while you can probably find the difference to be more like $150 (easier to find).

So I can't tell from this review how the R888 compares to the RA-1. We need a comparison of the two tires.
Another question I have: Shaving for the track. The track performance and longevity of the RA-1 is greatly improved by shaving the tread down to about 4/32. How about the R888?

Here's the info we're looking for.
I found this in the Tires & Wheels section.

Looks like a better track tire, for a slightly higher price.

I thought about a tire trailer but the fusion exhaust took up all the space that a hitch would go. Anyone have a fusion exhaust AND a tire trailer hitch?

But we're looking for tires that are ok to drive to the track on. I have heard that you really should not drive more than a few street miles on Hoosiers, whereas w/the Toyos and Cups really are "OK" to divre to the track.

I was in a similar delimia with my C6Z06. There was no hitch available and I did have tire trailer sitting in my back yard collecting dust. I went back and forth and just broke down a got a car trailer. I am SO much happier I spent the extra few dollars to do this. I use MUCH less of my tires in general, save hundreds of miles on the car driving to and from events and if I break (like I did last week). I roll her up on the trailer. I wish I just would have done this sooner.
I still drive on the street 10-20% so wanted something with some treads for when I get caught in the rain. Therefore, the look into RA-1 and then R888s.
