Accusump Effectiveness for Road Racing
Hi Guys,
What has your experience been on the effectiveness of using an Accusump for serious road racing? I understand that without a dry-sump system, people generally fun a quart higher in oil to prevent oil starvation. Have many people tried the accusump to solve this issue?
My oil pan is a custom pan that actually has trap doors, yet our data showed a downward spike in oil pressure to about 8psi at only one point in the track. It's just a flash of an instant, and truly just a spike. Since it's such a short time, it seems like an accusump could remedy this, without having to spend the money for the dry-sump. Of course the dry-sump is ideal, but we don't have an unlimited budget.
Thanks,
Steve

I dont know about how fast the system reacts on track... usually too busy worrying about driving, BUT it is very nice being able to pressurize the system before starting the car.

I would not run a non drysump motor without an accusump. I would spend the extra money and get a dual stage valve so you are not filling the accusump while your motor is regaining oil pressure.

I run a 3 qt accu-sump and oil cooler. Dont think I ever say oil pressure down below 25 psi even on high speed sweeping corners. But then again I am a bit busy in those corners too.
I run M1 15-w50 too. about 10 1/2 qts total

Same setup. On the last turn at Sebring, long sweeping right hander, ive had no oil pressure issues.

Ok, that sounds good. So it seems like this could be effective.
So if the engine can maintain oil pressure in my application with the addition of an accusump, what benefits do a dry-sump system give me that I would need for endurance racing?
Sorry for the ignorance, but thanks for the help!

Yup Left front fender
and then the coolers
Trans Left - Oil right
The trans cooler, accu-sump oil cooler combs are the best mods I have done to my car. I think I did three schools before I had them installed.
and I use manual switches. No t-stats

I'll post some pics of the plumbing on mine....RAFTRACER did it a week before NCM/VIR. Pretty slick as it goes over the frame rail....protected.

I am running a canton road race oil pan on my lt1, noticed at vir that even with this pan, the oil pressure was dropping, not good. I will be installing an accusump before I put the car back on the track.

Yes BINK, please post pictures.....3qt sump with electric control and refill valve....Works out really well, and I can sleep better with all of the lines above the frame rail.
John, I have all of your fittings, will call soon to send (probably next week after Mid-Ohio). Been driving the blue rocket around this week and still have alot to do to get ready for the weekend..

I used to run one on my supercharged Taurus SHO. It really wasn't needed as the oil pan never has a problem keeping oil at the pickup tube, however, I mainly used it for dry starts.
I kept the valve open when I was on the road course so that it could help with any spikes, but I never liked the idea of the pressure it probably took away when filling. 8,000+ RPM needs oil and that's when the Accusump was really charging.
I don't think it is a bad idea, but just be careful where you mount it. I only had one place to fit my 2-quart which was behind the front bumper. It was a slick setup, but eventually it seemed to block good flow from the radiator, as well as throwing hot air onto it. Mine also sprung a leak from the pressure relief valve about 15,000 miles later.
I eventually got rid of it and am now installing a Fluidyne cooler as heat was my biggest problem on track.
