one way to get downforce at an autocross
Something for the purists to hate.
I went up to Detroit for the 4th to visit some friends and saw this very interesting NCCC autocross car.
ZR1 body, fully raced prepped with cage and 16in slicks, with a 550hp SBC not an LT5, oh and a sprint car wing on top!

You may be surprised how fast that thing goes. The Idea is the the wing puts all of the force in the center of the car so the force is spread out of the whole car and not just the rear. What you dont see is that the wing flattens out at higher speed. Active aero I suppose. Additionally the wing is an upside down air foil as to not cause as much drag as a "spoiler".
That car and driver has been the only thing between me and a few overall FTD's.

I put my camera in his car at Putnam Park. It is some interesting footage. The car has a jerico trans. It whines like hell. NA SBC and it runs pretty good. The camera was over the trans cooler so that is some of the noise you hear at the start.

I didn't get to see him run, but saw his car here in Nashville for the NCCC Convention - it's an eye-catcher for sure. He ran third in Group III R/P in a very tough field - beat by Aaron Quine and John Haskell. I think he was 5th or 6th fastest overall out of 250 cars.
In addition to whatever benefit he gets with the wing, guy must be a good driver also. I'm not a fan of the asthetics of the wing, but hey - whatever works!

My 3 x 5 IMCA wing on my Iceracer made the steering get harder after about 50 MPH. The more wing angle the faster the car got. Then after putting 37-39 degrees into it, I had a mount fail at 120mph. Good bye wing

More pics of Ray's winged warrior
cooler with fan placed above the former storage compartment
As you can see, it was a street car, not tube framed.

Some more pictures of CCM's 4th of July event.

Yes, I need to learn to work my cellphone camera zoom
I'm glad I made it up there, it was nice seeing people again after 5 years
