Default Tire thoughts Hankook 275 vs Hoosier 295s

What do you think?

NASA TTA

I could run Hankook 275/17s all around than be eligible for a contingency of $150 per event(hankook dollars) or $300 a weekend if I can get two wins & $1000 at Nationals if I can pull off a win. These tires cost about $215 each

Also it would give me 4 extra points to work with or a total of 6 free points.

I could run my current set up 275/17 ft and 295/18 rear (Hoosier) I'll still have 2 free points but this is like $1100 a set $300 more give or take

Or I could run 305/18 all around either Kumho or Hoosier and have no points to play with ($1200 ish per set)

What are your thoughts +/- you think I could make up the tire difference with a few mods?

I thought about the 275s for the Z and the FRC - but I am just now weaning myself off 315s. The contingency money is a real hook but it is going to be tough on those narrow tires to beat a bigger tired car (maybe if you stripped your interior). One of the things I am hoping works out point wise is to get my 315s back on the FRC.

I discarded the 305/18 option due to cash issues.

I have been running the 295/40 Kumhos on the ZO6 lately.

What are you running up front? I'm running 275/17s up there anyways so I would just need to be a little easier out of the corners I'd think.

I run 275/35 - 17, 315/35-17 or 295/40-17 depending on the car and what clears...I run 315 or 295-17 on rear.

Easier out of the corner is tough when that is one of our advantages right now. I can really tell it from a decrease of 315 to 295 already.

I think you could do it but while you are feathering the throttle someone else is making up time on you. Depends on the competition. I think at the nationals it will really hurt...

I am really considering going to the 315/35-17 Nitto NT01 on all four corners for only 5 points...

Wouldn't that be 9 points? 5 for Nittos and 4 for oversized.

The other thought is if I'm on the Hankooks and am winning I'll always have fresher tires. a fresh 275 should stick better than old 315.

I have run 275 all around with a set of Nitto 555 RIIs but that was when I first bought the car.

versus 10 points for 295 Hoosier/Kumho - yep. I can get 4 315s NT01s to my house for $900.

A fresh 275 will stick better than an old 315. One reason I do not buy scrubs anymore.... three weekends of winning (24 runs) should get you into a fresh set (~$900).

Getting 5 starters is the hard part, Mid Ohio shouldn't be a problem though.

$900 for 4 315s cost me $1160 for 2 275 & 2 315 NT-01s

Discount Tire $225 each for 315s shipped to your house...

5 starters here is tough also, in class, consistently

Jeff, tires notwithstanding, I think you're going to find quite a bit more grip with the new suspension and additional camber. Will NCM be your first event on it?

We certainly hope so - I am in Idaho at the moment (till next Friday) and Jake is at home pulling the driver side header, again, to address an oil leak on the block fitting...

He should have it back together tomorrow though
