Default Can I use this for P/S hose?

I'm having a real hard time finding 5/8 power steering hose locally. I need it for the low pressure side on my LT1. There are two very short sections that are old and in dire need of replacing. One from the P/S reservoir to the cross over pipe, and one from the crossover pipe to the pump.

Can I use this high temp oil cooler hose with P/S fluid?

http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pro...p?Product=3290

I'm also going to be mounting a large power steering cooler instead of the small factory cooler. I'll need quite a bit of the 3/8 hose.

Should be fine. Are you sick of the high temps in the PS unit? I relocated my cooler for better air flow.

don't use 5/8" heater hose. it won't last more than 6 months.

Is there a shop in your area that makes custom-built hydraulic hoses? Maybe a brake shop that makes up brake lines? They should have bulk hose that would be suitable for power steering use. They might even be able to fabricate the size/length that you need for the application.

It's not heater hose, it's oil cooler hose. Any reason why that wouldn't work for P/S fluid?

Nothing really to fabricate, no crimped ends or bends anywhere. It just a short strait section with clamps on each end. It's stock. I'll get some pics in a minute.

Teflon with SS won't work here. The tubes have beaded ends.

I think Pegasus hose would work fine. P/S fluid is nearly same as 10W oil, so fluid compatibility should be OK.

That hose can be used for the low pressure side. The crimp clamps are better and require a crimp tool, but arent necessary.
Theres a big difference between heater hose, ss covered rubber hose and ss covered teflon hose.

For those recommending ss covered hose, does the hose clamp go over the covering or do you pull it back?

Don't peel it back. Wrap some good tape to hold it where you cut it and use a regular hose clamp or or some like these.

Easy fix. Call us; Classic Tube and Stopflex at 800-882-3711. Ask for Tom. Tell him I told you to call. He will set you. I am not in the office, prepping to run the Glen this weekend.

Got it. A way to have the ss covering protection without an fittings. Im so used to working with the an fittings, I forget about the optional and basic stuff.

You can add unnecessary weight to your car if you like, many of us will not.

I don't see the gain here in using braided. It adds weight and if want to use a clamp you need to buy eight dollar a pop clamps? Ouch. Peeling it back is an extra hassle. There is a time and place for different types of hose.

The hose in the first link looks like it would work fine.

Dude, the difference in weight between 3 feet of braided and 3 feet of rubber hose is so minute. Besides he can use 50 cent a pop clamps if he so desires. Plus it will look cool.

ZBRA, I went through the exact same thing last week. I had replaced those joints with heater hose a year or so ago not realizing that it's different.

I looked everywhere for PS hose and found 5/8" at Autozone in bulk. I bought a foot of it and have plenty left. If you don't have Autozone nearby shoot me a PM with your address and I'll ship some.

It says power steering right on the hose...
