Tire pressure/Canyon carving
Thanks for stepping in!
Here`s the deal... my car is street driven with hard core canyon carving on the weekends, time permitting. After my blower install (Magnuson @ 500rwhp) the front end was pushing at my usual tire pressure setting (30psi cold front/rear.)
Obviously the added weight of the blower changed the balance of the car, so after trying several combos I ended up @ front 34psi cold and rear 28psi cold.
This brought back the sharp turn-in I`m used to and the lower pressure in the rear added some needed grip and is now a nicely balanced set-up.
Now here`s where your help is needed, during extended "hard-core" runs the hi-pressure warning displays on my DIC (aprox 42-44psi,) mind you this is only during sustained runs in the most tight/twisty areas and the warning goes away when longer sweeping turns or reduced speeds are encountered.
The max psi on the sidewall is 51psi. Is the above mentioned front psi considered too high??? If not I think I will turn off my Hi-pressure warning in the DIC as it distracts me and overrides the trans temp display that I usually monitor.
Here`s my set-up if it helps:
98 C5 Vert A4 3:15
Lowered aprox 1-1 1/2in. stock bolts, no cut bushings.
F CCW 18X10 Mich Pilot Sport 273/35-18
R CCW 18X11.5 Mich Pilot Sport 335/30-18
F45 Suspension w/Z06 sway bars w/ploy bushings
Elite 3/8 tunnel brace

P.S. I have tried 32psi cold in the front which avoids the Hi-pressure warning but I prefer the feel/balance running 34psi cold!

Instead of focusing on PSI, where is the wear line? The wear line can help as well.

The tires exhibit even wear to the edges of the tread, no high wear spots on either the middle or inside/outside, just nice and even across the tread!
I`d try the ol chalk trick but I don`t think it would last long enough in these turns to get a read!

If you can turn off the high tire sensor that's what I would do. If the car handles better at the higher pressure then don't compromise it by lowering the pressure. I believe the high tire pressure of 51psi on your sidewall is cold settings. You will never get it that high.

Thanks to everyone for their input, sounds like 42-44 psi hot really isn`t too hot for hard core canyon conditions, I think I`ll just ask my tuner to turn off the "hi-temp" feature on the DIC!
