Default Hoosier R3S04

Hoosier is selling this tire in a 335-17 for $85 shipped! Is this compound any good? Has this tire been sitting in a warehouse for three years?
Hoosier has not yet responded to email, Is any one familiar with this tire?

85/tire for an unused tire is pretty much a clear sign to buy.

pre R6 have a more squared shoulder, so if you dont have a ton of camber thats where they will cord, but the tire will be just fine for DE's.

you have to click the begin shopping link to list tires.
How will these compare to the 710 in grip level?

dang, all they have left are rains. not sure on grip, I haven't used the 710's yet but I'm guessing the hoosiers will be less sticky.

Fine for HPDEs. Make sure you have rims that can be used with a 335 tire or you risk rolling the tire off the rim during hard cornering.

The -S04s are the steel belts, which did not work out well for them (us).
The 04s tend to cord the edges faster than prior or later versions.

The R6/A6 tires are steel belted tires as well.

any DOT approved tire (which all of these are) must be steel belted.

I ran two sets of RS304s for HPDEs and paid a lot more. I only wish they had them in 18". At this price, I'd buy a couple of sets.

I run 315 front.. Is this tire worth considering? At this price I don't care about longevity, just concerned about ballanced grip with the 315 710s on front or R6. Don't need a goofy mix of grip..

I also run 315/335-17s and it is my favorite combo. While the S04s are less than the best they are so cheap they make good sense.
I have a a few new sets of S03s that I would not trade because they are perfect for my needs.

Finally got reply from Hoosier;
Joe,
Sorry for the late response. We currently have 6 of the P335/35ZR-17 R3S04 left in stock which sell for $85.00 each. This price includes the shipping. The R3S04 and the R6 have the exact same tread compound. The main difference is the construction. The R4 is designed with fiberglass belts and the R6 has a steel belt tread package. We have found the steel belt construction makes the tire faster. Air pressure should be run in the R4 at 40 - 42 psi hot while the R6 can be run at 36 psi hot. Camber settings and break in procedures are the same on both tires.
Feel free to go to the website to purchase these tires. I have listed a link below to get you to our ordering page.
Thanks for writing.
