Give me ventilated hood ideas please!
I considering ventilating my stock hood in the area right behind the radiator for cooler running track days. Please list some pros/cons that I may not have considered, and some pictures/ideas would be great. I think I'd probably just prefer to chop up my stock hood, since I really don't have the room to store it.

In my ST2 car, I'm going to use some ventshade louvers from JCWhitney. I don't have the part numbers handy, but they make a large square one, and I'm going to use 2. Eventually, I may also vent the hood above the front tires with smaller louvers.
You want to be just behind the top of the radiator. Obviously, the nose and front of the hood are high pressure, as is the cowl area. I have some C5R CFD photos somewhere that I'm trying to dig up.

ZX492230U here is the part number I plan on using. I think they are sealed, but am pretty sure they can be opened up and just riveted onto your OEM hood. Not necessarily pretty, but it will help.
Ideally, you would also want a splitter with a front-opening nose, as well as a sealed undertray. You want as much air going in/over the car and out the top, not under or in, then leak out under.

I just ordered a set....this post reminded me to get to work!
They also make some small, narrow one, that would work over the fender wells, but that is for another day (or year)....

One thing I noticed in the write up of that awesome DIY job.
Remove the rubber louver in the side vents. I assume you would have to make holes in the inner fenders to get air out of the wheel wells and engine bay. Would this help with heat extraction? It seems reasonable that it should help lower the pressure in the wheel well area since it is a higher pressure zone. This should enhance brake cooling some measurable amount?
That seems like a freebie improvement with a little nit of labor.

You can buy a hood already vented, in carbon, that will bolt right on. Of course, it will cost money, instead of the dozens of hours of time he put in.
ANY air you divert from going down or sideways, to going UP will help create downforce (or decrease lift). Cutting the inner fender, and extracting air upwards will do this. It will not help cooling the engine bay etc.
However the central louvers will help extract hot air and actually allow MORE air to go through the radiator, as well as creating downforce by redirecting cooling air that usually spills out the bottom/sides of your car.
According to the WC C6R Wind Tunnel sheet, shutting off the center louvers on the hood (this would be the hood on LG's car) decreases front downforce by over 10% with no change in drag.
Without a splitter, it is pretty much impossible to create downforce on a C5, but you can reduce lift and improve cooling.
BTW, I saw a Porsche 944 at a recent NASA event with louvers. I was curious, so I walked up close. Seriously, the guy had gotten HVAC ducts from a hardware store and put them in his hood. Half of the vents were in one direction, half in the other. In other words, half of the vent was a "louver", and half of it was a "scoop". I took a photo with my phone, but I can't find it.

There were a bunch of Arizona vette guys at the last WSIR tribute to le mans with the porshe club about 3 weeks ago. They had really nice cutouts. Maybe some one can find those guys.

Kerry makes very nice hoods (ACP/corvetteracebodies.com), especially in carbon, but they are pricey.
I want to buy a nose from him over the winter, but I'm going to go the cheap route on my hood.
I'll post some photos of the damage when my louvers come in.

I've always liked the Motor City Mold hood. Especially with the carbon fiber insert.

Id like to see a Corvette hood like that.....I 've this picture too many times on E-bay....the hood pictured looks like it is for a Mustang. it also has a cute little duct in the nose. Anyone have a picture of this hood on a Corvette ????
