Big Bend Open Road Race Results
Got back from the Big Bend Open Road Race in Fort Stockton, TX this afternoon. It was a blast. I got to try out the new track car and she did great.
Mods:
Z06 sway bars
Billy Boat Bullet exhaust
lowered some
performance alignment
Brey-Krause harness bar
G-Force 6-point harnesses
Other than that it is a basic 99 coupe.
This was our (me and my wife) 2nd BBORR. We were in the 110mph class. We finished the 118 mile course @ 110.029 mph (1.018 seconds fast). Not bad but didn't bring home a trophy. We came in 6th out of 25 in our class and 19th out of 150 overall.
I drove and my wife navigated and worked the stopwatches. The Vette handled great. I put in the harnesses to get that "racing" feel but they really do help. You are connected to the car and can feel what she is doing much better than with standard belts. You could feel her set and power through the corners and curves (all 100+ of them). I tried explaining it to my wife but she just couldn't understand how good it feels when you are in the groove and things are working.
I am lucky that my wife likes to drive fast and is supportive of my new-found addiction - and we get along while racing. We did get a little frustrated with each other at points but we worked as a team. There were lots of guys who said their wives would not ride with them or even come to the race.
Oh yeah - for fun I checked my gas mileage on the return leg of the race. I averaged a little over 17 mpg averaging 110 mph for 59 miles. There is a lot of accelerating out of curves and runs at 120mph. Gotta love the Corvette

I'd like to find somebody that wants to navigate at one of the runs in
northern Nevada. The wife doesn't like my approach to on-ramps, I
doubt it would be much fun for her doing even 50 miles at speed. Your
result sounds like perfection, can't imagine hitting it even that close.
Enjoy your future runs!
