Default Montoya Fined 10K and Probation til 12/31

Montoya fined 10K and placed on probation until 12/31 for on-camera
gesture last week in Phoenix

Apparently Stewart has escaped censure for numerous offences of
the same kind.

I heard about that. What's so pathetic is that they can't even tell us what the obscene jesture was. I'm sure that none of use have every seen this kind of obscene jesture before in our lives.

There was footage last night on SPEED during a break in the Set Up show.
JPM is belted in and the camera is filming from the passenger side. JPM's
right hand rises briefly into the frame displaying the old familiar suggestion,
drops out of sight then rises back into the frame to give a more sociable
wave.

If you weren't already familiar with the salutation, you would have
missed it.

Personally, I'd prefer that a certain sanitization apply because I want
to be able to watch motorsports with my young daughter. I think the
place for final editing is in the control booth - there used to be a X-sec
tape delay for just this reason. Let the drivers be express the emotion
that builds in the highly-charged environment they work in and if need
be, shelter the weenies and families via the tape-delay.

What we find far more offensive in our household are the promos for the
WWF steriod freakshows that appear in between SPEEDTV programming
during family viewing hours.

SPEEDTV could stand to cut back on the endless reruns of helmet
throwing, pitlane shoving and other forms of hissy fits that they meld
into their shows, too. After the first 10-20 viewings, these get to be annoying.

You are lucky to live in a place without traffic...

An obscene gesture is the disgusting violent programming that passes for entertainment in the USA...

So he was flying the bird? Unless you totally shelter your kids, they are going to see it just about anywhere at some point in their young lives. I knew what the jesture was when I was young and I didn't see it or learn it on tv.

How about taking the opportunity to explain to your daughter that what Montoya did was "wrong" after you saw him do it? You know, some fatherly guidance.

I'd prefer to see reality, rather than a santized version of it.

There are lots of options on TV for sanitized programming. You can't blame "the media" for everything, unless you're letting "the media" raise your children, run your household and set your standards.

Me, I blame violent video games for everything.

I am really impressed by Montoya's response after being "punished". What a class act. No whining, no finger pointing.(other than the one that started it all)

He just wants to move on and get back to racing! Bless him.

Im impressed with his response also. I bet Stewart would line up attorneys and give excuses for the behavior.

Im not a huge NASCAR fan. While its racing, i usually only have interest in when they are on the road courses. The super speedways and even the short tracks are nothing but a large scale game of bumper cars. These guys loose thier minds in the last 50 laps run each other off the track like my brothers and i did at the local go cart track 30 years ago.

NOW Tony Stewart is comparing NASCAR to WWE wrestling. How sweet is that?? SHUUUT UP Tony.

His apology should be accepted, and yes he should be fined. Thats the way is should happen. That is unless Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson finds out that the gesture has some underlying prejudice meaning and then he certainly should be fired and never be able to drive a race car on the planet again......Sorrry, had to throw some political view in there.

Stewart didn't escape forgeting he finished 2nd and his manditory press enterviews. He also got a $10k fine and probation.

Seems the cry baby didn't like getting his azz beat driving heads up late in the game with just a few laps left. He got out raced and couldn't admit it, so he hide from the press. Then he bitch'd about debris cautions allthough the last caution was for a wreck.

come on Tony your better than that!

I dont want my kids to see that crap either, especially on race coverage. Its getting so I can barely let them watch football anymore becaue the commercials for network garbage sitcoms are so racey.

But I do have a rule around my house. Just becuase you saw someone do it, adults included, DOES NOT mean that you can. When this issue comes up I say that there are a lot of things that you cant do that i can. Drink, cuss, drive a car (not all at the same time), smoke a cigar now and then, vote, etc. When they turn 18 they can do many things and I hope we have trained them well enough to make good decision.

Anyway, enough about child rearing.

Somebody needs to go slap some sense into Tony Stewart.
