C5 Z51 shocks vs Bilstein
My 2000 has black factory shocks with the Z51. What are they and how do they compare to a good set of Bilsteins?
Thanks

The Z51 shocks work quite well on a C5. The Bilstein Sport shocks are a bit stiffer, are shorter so they don't have bottoming problems with lowered cars, and, according to several forum folks whos opinions I respect, are more durable than the OE shocks.
That being said, I've never had a problem with a dead shock (don't know how you can tell a shock is weak without a shock dyno). I changed out my first set at 100K miles (they seemed fine, just thought it was about time), and upgraded to '04 Z06 shocks around 135K miles, trying to improve my autocross setup (it did seem to help).
I'll probably move over to Sport shocks whenever I get rid of these.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
