Default C4 track day pad suggestions?

Just put J55's on my '88, can anyone recommend a good track day pad? Hawk HPS overheated my stock 12" rotors.

I run Carbotech XP10 (front) and XP9 or 8 (rear) with much success.

The J55's did not work well for me. I still overheated any pads I tried. I finally owund up with the C5 conversion with Wilwood H pads and love it. All depends on your driving style and how the car is set up.

Carbotech has pads to fit your C4. Suggest you start with 10's up front, but talk to their tech people and they will lead you straight. email carbotech@gmail.com or call 704-481-8500. Sorry but I don't have a toll free # for them. Let you know you are a forum member and you will get a 10% discount.

I'm putting in the C5 calipers to and have added ducts. Once these PFC Z pads are gone, I'll use the XP10 as well.

I run the Hawk HT-10's on all 4. I tried and didn't care for PFC-Z, or Hawk Blacks. I also like the same pads on the rear as the front but I'm a little odd.

PFC 01s front and 97s rear. GS calipers and S/S lines. No problems ever at Pocono (North) and LimeRock. The only tracks I run.

We have run hawk HT-10's with great success. DTC 70's have worked well for us too. The only time I have EVER overheated them was when they turned red at Gingerman. I was also trying to chase somebody i had no chance of catching. They don't just overheat either. Usually there is a good indication when you need to back off a bit and cool them. The 70's @2200* faded a bit but I layed off and had them back by the time I hit the next turn. Proper fluid change and cooling will result in the Hawks being awsome on track!

We use GS calipers and DRM SS pistons. The SS pistons transfer less heat to the fluid as well.

What ever you run, channel some air to them with some brake ducts.

Absolutely mandatory on a C4 with brakes/pads more aggressive than stock.

I use Carbotechs 10 front /8 rear

I also have a DRM bias spring

C5 front brakes with XP10's, stock C4 rears with XP8's, currently no brake ducts (hopefully soon).

I just couldn't get the C5 calipers to work for me, It just never felt as solid as the GS calipers that I had on my 96. It would be fine for some tracks but didn't cut it at Road America, a lot of you guys like the set-up I just couldn't get it to work for me.

I use the Hawk DTC-70's up front and Wilwood A's in the rear and of course ducting to help keep things cool.

Oh and I have the DRM bias spring and Wilwood EXP 600 fluid.

Both C4 and C5 calipers are slide rails which have a lot of issues.

You can a Wilwood kit for ~$1500.

Definitely a good setup. I used this for a few years before I went with the wilwoods. I'd also echo what the others have said about cooling ducts. They're a must, particularly with race pads or you will end up boiling fluid and cooking piston dust boots.

One thing I forgot to add is that I also put the DRM stainless steel pistons in both the C4 and C5 calipers that I used, one more thing to keep the heat away from the fluid, the stock aluminum just doesn't cut it.
At least not at Road America.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll give the carbotechs a try. Brake ducts were on my list, maybe higher on the list now. Stainless steel pistons? Are these an easy change? Sources?

Thanks

Jeff

Check http://www.dougrippie.com/ for the ss pistons, although, I still have the stock ones in.
