Replacing motor and will likely change clutch while it's out. Which clutch do you recommend? Should I just keep my LS6 clutch with 10,500 miles?

If you are going to be running 500 hp, You had damn well better replace the clutch and not with a factory setup, now is that 500 to the rear wheels? If so, you are in a precarious position if you street drive it. I would recommend an Exedy product only because they have been race proven in C5's. Problem is I am only familiar with the single hyper and flywheel rated for 450 hp that was used in Grand Am by the Sunoco Powell Team in their C5's and CTSV's.
You may need a twin plate clutch and sometimes this is a pain if you street drive the car as it may chatter some. Engine Mods can cause clutch rattle when the clutch pedal is depressed by movement on the intermediate separator plate in some applications. This is normal, however, and comes with the territory of multi disc sytems.

Here's a C5 chart from Exedy:

haven't had any experience with others bill but the spec3+aluminum flywheel in mine seems to work well on the track. pita on street though, lot of chatter. not sure you'll be able to avoid chatter though.

Exedy twin is a great clutch. A little on the racing side but once you get the hang of them, they are easy to drive on the street.

I've installed a Exedy single and it is pretty quiet, there is a little chatter when you launch and it's engaugement is quicker, but all in all it's not unbearable. He's done two track events with it (3 days at Gingerman and 3 days at Mid-Ohio) and the only differance is the launch.

If not for the street, go with proven names like Quartermaster or Tilton(i.e.) carbon/carbon, twin)...I've learned the hard way...pricey but they last!

Lot's of people are loving the Spec3+. I don't have near that HP, but the clutch is very streetable. Worth taking a look at.

I have been running the RPS clutch at 460 rwhp and dont have any issues with it. Actually the more I run it at the track the smoother it gets...

Hey Bill,

In our little group of guys I've seen problems with Spec 3, 3+, LS7 and Centerforce. Not to name names but you know who these belonged to, two different guys. None seemed to stand up to drag racing for long, which is much harder than tracking. The LS7 has been getting a beating in the C6 forum, mostly from Ranger and other drag racers who don't like it at all.

Mike Norris recommended a stock LS6 clutch to my H/C car and it was flawless. As a matter of fact, I can't think of anyone in our Challenge that has clutch problems with the stock LS6, except one sticking to the floor, but that was remedied by taking out the over center spring. Can't beat the price either.

When's that bad boy motor going to be done?
