Oil Report 1500 track miles!
This is a report of 1500 track only miles and they are tuff tuff miles in my car at the track. The car is in the pits briefly and on the track either full throttle or brakes, total abuse. Changing oil every 3000 in a street car is not required. DIC was doing a good job of tracking it also and compatible to the testing. I have some on the diesel Dodge and the diesel Excusion if anyone is interested. Make up oil listed is an error I added a few quarts at the very tops.

before as it was the end of the season oil. Forgot what the DIC said but it was close in correlation to the test. I think it had in the 40% range left.

That's good to know... there's been some "discussions" I've watched about changing at 2500mi, 3000mi, 5000mi, every track day, etc... and supposedly the C6 oil life system is really accurate. It's just marginally scary to trust it sometimes.

Thats really good info. I used to change mine every other track event at about 50% on the DIC. I am going to extend it till I hit about 25% and same some bucks. I drive hard, but probably not quite as hard as you do.

I run 15W/40 Valvoline in the diesel not synthetic. I was told after the Dodge Cummins test at 7500 go 8500 I went near 10,000 and it still good. The other side of the coin the Ford diesel I was told after 7500 mile test go 5000 because of fuel in the oil. Some guys go 30,000 on synthetic with the Cummins by changing oil filters at 7500 and topping off. The thirty bucks or so it cost is worth it to save oil changes not required.

The results look very good. 14ppmFe/1000mi seems low for racing conditions, flashpoint is very high so fuel dilution is negligible. My LT1 has twice the iron wear and more than 3X Pb levels, but we are not comparing apples to apples. You should inspect the pleats on the filter to see if any unusual macroscopic wear is taking place. You should also get a real pro like Terry Dyson at www.dysonanalysis.com to analyse your results. I have used him, he's a racer and very insightful. Lastly, a lot of people are getting very low wear levels(though not exactly these conditions) using GC 0W-30 in LSX engines.

Thanks John. thats what I thought.
Somehow the oil companies have us believing we need to change the oil more often, but after getting my BMW with oil changes around the 15K mark I started to think the days of 3K is a thing of the pass.

Great info John. Only the Ford diesel is direct injected so it has to be changed at 3K because it gets loaded with soot deposits. I have so many towing miles on mine (horse trailer and car trailer) I can just about feel when it needs to be changed.

I have a Blackstone report I don't mind sharing. It's on my computer at home so I'll post it up this weekend. It is a sample from before installing my oil cooler. So the car was bone stock. 02 Z06. had 17K miles on it before oil change. Roughly 23K at time of change and sample. I ran the oil for 4552 miles. 8-10 autox events, 2 track events (with oil temps hitting 280), and the rest street miles. I ran RP 10w-30. I was using Mobil 1 filter and Fram Air Hog air filter.
The only thing they noted in the report was that Copper content was higher than their normal standard. They said that on new GM engines it is common due to their use of copper gaskets. They said on the next sample as I get closer to 30K miles they expect to see it get lower. Other than that the oil still had plenty of additives left and I could have run it longer. No contaminents and oil/air filters were not causing problems.
So much for the 3K mile oil change idea many people are so hung up on.

my friend leased a BMW and went 45-50,000 miles and never changed it. I told him he better before he returned it. Cheap bastard!

It is included for free with the purchase (along with brakes and rotors - they didn't like me) so he is not cheap he is lazy

Blackstone is a highly regarded vendor, but there are others that provide consistent, fast results. I use Oil Analysts. Check out the website www.bobistheoilguy.com for other vendors. A proper interpretation is every bit as important as the data.

Here is the Blackstone Report for my car. The info I posted above about the cars use is against this sample.
