Any downside to getting ceramic coating on my headers?
Well after having the air tube pop off on Saturday I think I'm going to do a little overkill work.
Pull headers, cut off air tubes, weld up, then ceramic coat the headers. I'm going to ditch the AIR system for easier servicing of the car.
Should I get any other parts of the exhaust coated while I'm at it? I believe I'll get my tunnel plate coated and get a heat blanket up in the tunnel.
Cya,

The only downsides that I see to ceramic coating are cost (removing the headers, the cost of coating and if any shipping is involved), but since you're going to have the headers off anyway...

I had my headers and X-pipe coated before I installed them. Also installed a heat shield in the tunnel.....

I used Jet hot on my tunnel plate and it did wonders reducing the heat in the car. The only downside I can think of is that if you trap the heat in more up front, the rear sections will run hotter. Not sure how much, but I am sure it is measureable. My thoughts are that cooled gas occupies less volume (PV=nRT) and that there is also probably some negligible backpressure increase if you keep the gas hotter through the entire system.
So was that more than you asked for?

a hotter gas is less dense than a colder gas. I could be wrong, though, wouldn't be the first time.

I have the grey jet hot 2000 with cats (didn't coat the cats). I never had too many interior heat complaints, but burnt wires/hoses were driving me nuts. The interior console still get hot, so I'd say the interior stuff has a lot to do with the cats...but like I said the heat doesn't bother me much.
The only downside that I'm aware of is cost - $350 for the coating I have.

My headers were done with swain-tech. After a lot of researching and reading, I believe swain tech is the best ceramic coating comapny out there, so I chose them. I think they we based in NY and they did a pretty quick turnaround and the coating was great. Shipping the headers to NY and back wasn't a problem.

Plus, if you're on the east coast, Swain-Tech is a lot closer. IIRC, Jet-Hot is out of Minnesota and Swain-Tech is out of NY. Shipping costs really add up.
