Default Tire and Wheel Upgrade Question

Which of these wheel and tire setups would perform the best for autocross.

My car is an 03 racing in group 2. I am going to stick with street tires for now. At some point I will go to race rubber but I need more driving time before that will make a difference. I am changing sizes so one day I can put race rubber on the rims I am going to buy.

18"x9.5" 275/35 ZR18 and 19"x11" 295/35 ZR19
or
17"x9.5" 275/40 ZR17 and 18"x10.5" 295/35 ZR18

One other question will either of these changes force me to change groups again? I upgraded the air intake and moved to goup 2.

I have no idea about classes, sorry, but in general I would stay with the smaller set. Less weight and more tire choices.

jmho.

^I agree. Plus, the shorter rim/tire will help with autocross gearing, i.e. more second gear grunt, off corner.

can you run 17in all around? I have 17 all around and found there to be many choices of tires at a cheaper price and you save weight.

Not sure if that will change your class though.

There's no reasonably sized 19" race rubber yet. And Hoosier are doing C6Z06 sizes before anything that'll [easily] fit the coupe/vert... I'm actually thinking of going down to 18" or 17" because of it... (which by the sounds of it would put me in group2 even with everything else stock...)

18" all around is a good balance between looks and performance if you are going to run them full time for now. I run 18x9.5/18x10.5 z06 repos and they do pretty good. They're heavy, but I'm not a good enough driver for that to matter much. Tires are 275/35 & 295/35 Kumho MXs

For dedicated track wheels, I'd say 17 all around unless you need the 18s to clear a big brake kit. The rubber is cheaper and you'll be spinning less weight. I think a good set-up would be 17x11/17x12 with 315 fronts and 335 rears.
