Default Hoosier 'A' series for HPDEs?

I've not noticed this being asked before (unless it was a long time ago), but what happens if one uses Hoosier A3S03s, A3S04s, etc. for track days, rather than just autocrosses? Will they die a quick and fiery death during the 25-30 minute sessions? Or will they stand up to the abuse similarly to how the 'R' series Hoosiers will?

Thx,
Fred

They certainly won't last as long as the R compound tires, but bear in mind that many T-1 drivers now race on A rubber, so there is no fear of overheating them.

You will love the grip while they last.

from what I have seen the T1 drivers qualify on A's and race on R's because the A's do overheat and get extremely greasy

They also race on A's.
that's why there is so much A rubber in the used tire market.

We are pretty much ALL racing on A's. Any T1 guy not racing on A's will get smoked. The last just fine- heat cycling will cause some performance loss, but the tread and tire life will last for quite awhile. Perfect for HPDE's.

They will basically have all the advantages and disadvatages of any soft compound tire in comparison to a hard compound tire.
More traction
More wear (less in cool weather, more in hot weather)
Better in cool weather
Better in wet conditions

Any initial feedback on the new A6s for HPDEs or T-1? I've heard that they are a lot more sensitive to heat, but that word was from folks with cars with less weight/less loading than a T-1 prepped C5.
