Default V710 Tire Pressure

after seeing the V710s are WGI I decided that they would be a good tire to run on road courses. I am ordering them now, but wanted to know what has been the optimal hot tire pressure for the V710s and what is the starting psi to get me in the range.

My next track day is Pocono Long counter clockwise with the chicane and I thought this would be a good place to get some "trial' runs with them.

thanks

Maineac, convert it to .WMV. The quality isn't the best, but you can get ~2 mins in about 7 or 8 meg, just right for internet posting.

Default Tire Pressure

26 cold for me, they warm up to 34-35. I've been marking the edges with paint and they are not rounding over. I might drop a pound next time.

reading more about these I see that the camber is -2 to -3. I am running -1.5 which I assume may lead to quicker wear. If so then these are not the tires for me.

Dam there are so many things to take into consideration.

I run mine with -1.5 and have not had a problem with them cording, and I run them for a bunch of weekends. They will run out of grip before they cord, regardless of the camber.

There are many additional settings when compressing the video - mainly resolution and frames/second.

Jody - how many heat cycles are you getting out of your 710's?

John, I can get 6 weekends out of a set. That would convert to about 36 heat cycles, but after about 10 or so, they start getting greasy after just a couple of laps and only get worse from there. When I'm into the 6th weekend, their only purpose is to keep the car from scrapping the gravel, not to motivate me around the track, although they still have plenty of thread. I just threw 2 away this morning that had thread on them.

Maineiac, try clipping out just a couple of minutes instead of the whole tape.

I ran V710 since the day they came out 2 years ago with -1.5 - 1.7, and got plenty of wear out of them. They have rolled edges which seem to tolerate camber challenged cars. That is actually in their marketing material. They did last longer and wore much better than say the Hoosiers for example under these conditions. With that said they will work better with -2.0

But again, I got several days out of them using -1.5

As far as temps...compared to other R's, they like to start out lower as they seem to rise more quickly than a Hoosier. Last week, I started them at 33F and 31R, and after 3 sessions I found the best starting pressure at 31F and 30R. I don't think they were near 40F. Even coming in from the track that is too hot for those tires, they will become greasy at that temp...vs the Hoosiers which won't even work until they are 40F.

710's take significantly less pressure than Victoracers or Ecstas. We'd start 710's 10-20% lower than the other tires, and adjust accordingly. Rudy & Mike & Jay & the other Mike at Kumho confirmed that 710's were happier with lower pressures.

Awesome tire.

Most of the T1 guys are starting around 24 or so...and they warm up to mid 30s. We have about -3 in front and -1.5 in back. Just keep the hot pressures below 40 and you'll be fine. Those tires rock!!!!!

Wow that seems so low! Good to know though. My camber plates go in tonight after work, so we'll see what I can get out of 'em.

That's with a full T1 kit too so your results may vary.
Get a good pressure gauge, pyrometer and a few open laps and keep playing with it until you find the right spot. As the old saying goes: "One good test session is worth 1000 opinions."

That's what I was really hoping to do down at Sebring helping Glen...but with the engine detonation.... oh well.
