FYI, did Roebling Road this past weekend. Much shorter straight than the two main ones at The Glen. Still, the C6Z touched 165--without going all out. We'll see what it does at The Glen.

If you can't make it to the PDA event try this one on June 5th and 6th http://www.phoenixcmr.com/events.htm . Phoenix runs only 3 run groups with the Intermediate and Advanced groups getting four 45 minute sessions per day. The late sign up fee is $440 but you are getting 60 to 80 more minutes on the track per day than any of the other schools. Thats like getting four days Vs two. For track time its the best value at the Glen although it will put a larger hole in your wallet for gasoline. The instructors run with the Advanced Group. Ever been on the track with a Busch North Series car? There have been some instructors who have brought them.

I was on track the first time up there with some Busch cars. The first session they blew by me and probably said look at the fool with the wing crawling around here. By Sunday I was able to stay with them the entire course. They probably thought in was two different people in the car. I had no clue what was coming up next until I learned the course. I wanted to bring it home in one piece.

If you drive at 9/10s the car will easily make it through two days of track driving. Its that last 1/10 that gets you. At 9/10 you can have fun but the equipment will last. Oil temp is lower, can use OEM brakes,
can sit around talking between sessions Vs working on the car.

ugh not oem brakes at the glen
UMMM
125mph into the bus stop on oem brakes is no good. You'll burn up the pads, boil the fluid, and not be able to stop.
Now lets think of turn 1 at the glen. No brakes means overdriving the turn and meeting the beautiful blue double guardrail.
If you go to a track, save yourself and everyone else. Bleed those brakes out with dot 4 fluid and get a good set of pads.
BTW 150mph on the back strech in a stock 97 6spd z51. (upgraded brakes)

BTW - Maineac and I were running in the high 140s to low 150s on the back straight with plenty of time for braking and down shifting before entering the bus stop.
That bus stop is really fast if you have the nerve to stay on it.

You're right though, the "esses" part of the track is crazy. My favorite part is the "boot" as I almost wiped out there last year apexing way too early. I'm going back in 10 more days (and counting) in my Z06 this time, so I'm hoping to do better. Wicked, saw your other thread on running at the Glen and it's gotten my blood pumping, looking forward to going back!
I just dont look at speed as anything important. If you are having fun and learning the abilities of you and your car then that is the most important.
As you get more and more comfortable with your abilities and the car's abilities speed will come.
then you need to figure out how to stop
