Default C6 Z51 Rear Rotor on a C5.. What brackets will I need?

Not the Zo6 but the C6 Z51 rotors. What would I need to make them work using front C5 calipers on the rear? I'm sorry to beat a dead horse but I'm not getting answers I can use. I need a rear parking brake and I am sold on using front calipers on the rear. Looking for ideas.

They would have to be custom. The rear rotors (either C5 or C6-Z51) have a different offset than the fronts, so the stock front brackets will not work. Aslo the front caliper may reach too deep into the center and interfere with the parking brake drum. Just use the stock rear calipers and C6-Z51 brackets.

The other option ($$$) is to go to a Wilwood or stoptech kit that uses a nice small 4 piston rear caliper on the stock or slightl larger parking brake style rotor. (if you want more piston area back there)

Or option 3 ($) is go with the C6 Z06 rear 4 piston caliper and 13.4" rotor - it has a parking brake - the same as yours, and has 4.36sq. in. of piston area (4 x 1.18" pistons) vs the C5 front calipers - 4.44 sq. in. (2x1.68" pistons) - That sounds good to me

CF member rudyarias has just gotten done doing this to his 02 Z06. I didn't get all the info on him but he's pretty pumped about it. Shoot him an e-mail I'm sure he'll share the info.

I believe all he had to do was machine the front caliper mount braket to get the alignment that was needed.

Math is a little off. If the 1.18 and 1.68 numbers are piston diameters you need to multiply each of them by PI. Area for a circle is equal to PI times the diameter. Its more like 14.8 sq. in. for the 4 pistons Vs 10.5 sq. in for the 2 pistons.

Those are piston diameters, but I was using Pi x radius(squared) for the area (multiplied by piston count)

Why can't i have a custom bracket fabricated that would allow me to run C5 front calipers on the rear while utalizing Z51 c6 rotors?

Only take the area of pistons on one side of the caliper. The area of the 4 piston caliper is 2.2 sq. in.

A 2 piston floating caliper with (2) 1 inch pistons clamps with the same force of a 4 piston fixed caliper with (4) 1 inch pistons.

You need to check out the pad area on the Z51 rotor. On the stock C5 rear rotor if you tried to use the front caliper the pads are way taller and a big portion would be on the unmachined inner part of the rotor.

Why would you consider the C6 Z51 rotor??? that puppy will crack sooner then latter. Stick with the stock C5 rotor or when Hard bars rotors are out go for those.

I think Rudy is doing the one lapper now, so he may not be on the puter much these next ten days or so
