Default Wanted: Harness bar and 5pt. harness

To hold my **** in the seat! After runnin' round Gingerman on Saturday, I have realized I could be a better driver if I wasn't trying to wedge myself in place all the time, soooo..

2001 Coupe, stock sport seats, need harness bar and 5pt harness. Crotch strap optional, but I doubt there's one long enough to fit between the posts.

PM me or reply here, thanks. As always, price is a factor!

Thanks,

Jamie

Jamie,

For the best harness bar check out R-D Racing, very good products.

Do not skip the crouch strap, it is a must.

Many vendors make harness bars. The height of the bar, relative to the top of your shoulders, is an important relationship.
A 6-point clip-in harness with the Brey Krause Lap Belt Mounting Kit makes a good combination.

A friend of mine has a harness bar and harness he removed from his 99 FRC that he's willing to sell. It's in very good condition, asking $400 with the camera mount (I/O Port) and fire extinguisher/mount or $300 without - plus shipping cost of $50.

I have the bar with harness attached and can send pics if you're interested. Email me at rhneff@compuserve.com or call 214.704.2931. I'll be in Houston for the SCCA National Tour event this weekend from Thursday on but could take some pics when I get back.

Thanks fellas for the input. I'm 6'3" standing, and seated, well, my shoulders extend above the backrest of the seat. AZ Speed and Marine's got a hardbar for $350 new, with camera and extinguisher mount, so your friend's asking a bit too much for a used one, I think. Rhneff, PM me with pics and price, would ya? Thanks!

If price is a factor get a latch and link over a camlock but dont skip the sub-belt. The "crotch belt" is there to keep the harness from riding up under your sternum. I am about 6'3 as well and I rode in 2 cars with 4 points belts on saturday and it's ok for a few laps but any extended session would result in a bit of pain and somewhat less safety because you start submarining under the harness. Some people are going to respond and say 4-point works just fine if done right and that is true. Just take my word it wouldent be something we put in our cars. 5-point is damn near foolproof.*

* damn near foolproof is a term used loosely but to the point. You get the idea.

Oh thank, Tim, like I didn't already know/envy your setup!

What mounting system did you use for the harness?

I did a little reading from the FIA a few weeks ago.

Neat fact -- The Pelvis can handle around 5000lbs of force without serous injury where the abdomen can only handle around 800lbs. If the should straps connect in the middle like the typical harness system, the shoulder straps will pull up on the lap belt in a wreck, that's why you need the sub belt. If you notice most systems that are designed as 4-point belts have the should straps connected at the sides where they won't pull up on the middle of the lap belt.

There is a lot of good info out there on auto/racing safety www.fia.com

Clubracer6 "aka" Alex sold me his hardbar. Shipped on Fri, should be here Mon/Tuesday. I've found several harness setups on the web, just a matter of choosing the right price now.
