Default SA 2005 Helmet

I'm buying a helmet. I like the Simpson Super Voyager, Bell M3, and the Impact Draft. Gotta be black to match the C6Z!! Got a big azzz head 7 3/4. Any thoughts?

If you can try on different helmets that would be a good idea. Some helmets fit ppls heads better then other helemts.

Black is nice but dont get hung up on the color as white is the most popular.

I bought by helmets from Jegs. They seem to always have a sale. I went with white because of the heat alone and I may use the helmets when I race the boat this summer.

I bought a Bell M4 Pro helmet from:

www.discoveryparts.com

I'm very pleased with the Bell M4... light weight and very comfortable.

My last helmet was a Simpson Super Bandit but... they have changed the venting system.

Both helments have a wide opening making it easy to use sun-glasses.

As long as it meets either FIA or Snell SA2005 specs, good fit is the most important issue. It should be snug all the around without being tight. If you grab the rear edge of the helmet by and pull forward, it shouldn't slide off your head. If you grab the helmet and move it back and forth, it should gently move the skin on your skull when doing so. It should exert a gentle pressure evenly all the way around. The area just above your eyebrows should be snug, but not painful. Generally, the more you pay, the lighter the helmet shell and the easier it is on your neck when pulling G's.

Personally, the AraiGP5 fits me the best and many consider it the best made helmet. it is the choice of many F1, IRL and Champ car drivers. Your mileage may vary. A good helmet painter, like Cleber or try lee designs can make it any color you like.

I had a Voyager and now will buy a super voyager tonight from local shop. Wish the liners was removable. Guess I'll wear the head sock all the time

All of your helmet choices are good. As for color, Black is great for that sinister look and an Iridium/Metallized shield is a super, but expensive, adder (only good in bright sunlight). If you are big on having your picture taken in the car while on track White shows up much better than Black

Good luck in the hunt!

Main advantage of super voyager is the wider eye opening which is great if you wear glasses driving. I've had one for 3 years and wear with head sock and it's in pretty good shape still. I've even worn it in open wheel cars for schools and it does pretty good, no lower aero lip.

I had a Simpson Voyager, but didn't like the fit around the ears. Where they attach the straps kept pinching my ear. Plus it got very hot very quickly. I think the Super Voyager has a better ventilation system.

I switched to a Bell M2 and found it to be much, much cooler and more comfortable, especially around the ears. Felt a bit lighter as well. Quality wise, you can't go wrong with either IMO. M2 has a wider eye opening than the M3. Bell is made in USA. The Simpson Voyager was made in China. Might not be a purchase decision point for you, but it was for me.

Just switched to a Bell M3 and love it. Comfortable, good vison, seems cool for a closed face std helmet too
