MADRID, Spain (AP) -- German co-driver Joerg Bastuck died Friday after being hit by a car during the Rally of Catalunya in northeastern Spain, rally organizers said.
Bastuck, a 36-year-old competitor in the Junior World Rally Championship, got out of his Citroen C2 GT driven by compatriot Aaron Burkart to change a tire when he was hit by a Ford Fiesta driven by Barry Clark and co-driven by Scott Martin.
Bastuck was flown by helicopter to the John XXIII Hospital in Tarragona, where he died, organizers said in a statement. No one else was injured.
The accident happened during the rally's second stage.
