Default Has anyone run the Nitto NT-01s

I just picked up a set for track days & was wondering if anyone has run them yet. I've run the 555 RII and was happy with them. They weren't nearly as good a Hoosiers but for the money and wear not bad.

Ask jbsblownc5, I think he named his children after them.

They are awesome tires for there specific need.

I drove my current set now 3,000 miles and have 22 track sessions on them. They now have no side tread really showing on most of the tires.

They like around 40psi depending on your setup.

They get hot quick and most important can survive 95degree days and 30 minute sessions and be fairly consistent rhoughout and not totally go away.

They are about 2 seconds slower than same size hoosier or V710 kumho but still 1-2 seconds quicker than a stock tire easy.

They are newer compound then RA1 but same company makes both tires.

Here is what I found.

Stock suspension except for Penske sa. Tires mounted on 18x11 front and 18x12 rear. Running -1.7 in front and -.1.1 in rear on camber.

Cold 34/34

Hot 40-42 front and 38 rear was a good starting point.

Car feels more predictable at higher pressure than this but running 36-38 front and 34-36 rear was worth about 1/2 second a lap drop in time.

John from Speedventures.net just ran a set at Laguna Seca this past Tuesday and posted on their site that he was going to do a review. Might be worth checking out as he runs a T-1 set up.

Is anyone considering this tire for the street instead of RA-1's or 555 RII's? I'm asking because the compound is supposed to be the same as the 555 RII's with a different carcass and tread pattern. The big difference is the tread pattern that shouldn't be an issue if you stay out of the rain.

Are they too aggressive for the street?

I was considering switching to NT01's from R2's, but it looks like the sizes available for Z06 size wheels (275/40-17 and 315/30-18) result in a shorter rear tire compared with the front and would result in TCS issues. While I run with everything off at the track, I like to keep TCS on when driving on the street.

As STArrow68 mentioned, I just ran my first event on the NT01's. I have a T1 setup car running at a bit higher than optimal weight (about 3300lbs IIRC), and the tires were excellent. Far better than the Victoracer V700's I've been running. I dropped 2 full seconds off my Laguna Seca laptime with these tires.

I ran them at 38.5f 36.0r "semi-hot" temps, meaning those were the pressures by the time I got back to my pit location and checked them. Probably were 1lb higher truly hot. I was using 275x17 front 315x18 rear.

Here is a video from that day of a 1:44.03 lap if interested: http://www.wurthmotorsports.com/Lagu...lap_videos.asp

Thanks! I didn't even look at sizes. I had assumed that they were available in the same sizes as the R2's.

I just exchanged PMs with a CF member who bought the NT01s; 275/40-17 fronts and 315/30-18 rears for an '03 Z06. He reports that he made trips up to Spring Mountain and Laguna Seca from San Diego with the tires on the car and had no TCS issues with the tires.

ya gotta be w/in 3% Joe. I haven't done the math, but the eyeball says you'd be pretty close.

Have they released these things in anything larger than a pizza cutter? (read, 335's yet?)

275/40-17 = 25.7 in. dia.

315/30-18 = 25.4 in. dia.

According to George in SD (BluethunderousZ06), he said he didn't have any TCS issues on trips up to SM and LS with the NT01's on the car. He did say they were pretty bad in the rain (which I would expect).

I think the 315/30-18 is the widest tire Nitto has avail. at this time. I need a new set of tires (AGAIN) for WSIR with ACRA on the 12th. With George's input I may just try the NT01's; The worst thing would be that I may have to drive in comp. mode on the street. The way I'm going thru tires they're only going to last 2-3 months anyway

Naw, you should be ok, Joe. I've run some fairly big deltas w/o tragic problems . . . 25.5's front and rear didn't even cause a hiccup.

Off topic, but why not just run RA1 scrubs?

I've never thought about buying scrubs; wouldn't even know where to buy them

Can't go by what George says about the rain......I don't think he slows down even then

I hope you get NT01 Joe. Then you will be the expert on comparing to the R2's. How much difference is there in the sizes...one is 305x35 the other 315x30. Which size is a better track size given the same rubber compound.

George said he was doing 40 on I-5 going over the grape vine, it was raining pretty heavily.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about my next set of tires. The 315/30 is 1 in. shorter than the 305/35. Obviously the wider tire means additional traction. the SWC vettes run 275/35-18 front and 335/35-18 Toyo RA-1's

The tires will either be Nitto R2's, NT-01's or Toyo RA-1's

Joe:

ONE inch is a LOT. When I went from the Khumo MX to the R2's my car got raised enough to easily clear speed bumps that I had to gingerly navigate previously.

I wonder why the R2 doesnt come in a 315 .... that would be nice!!

While we're on the subject of tires, what's the deal with racing on drag radials? Some guys at the local auto-x were using them. I figured a DR would have no sidewall support for that sort of thing.
