Lug nuts keep coming loose?
I started noticing this about 1 year ago, but dismissed it. It's just so strange. Regardless of whether it's track driving or street driving, they keep coming loose (on any wheel at any given time). Unless my torque wrench is shot, when I put the wheels on they always get torqued to 100ft lbs, but eventually work themselves loose. Keep in mind I probably only put 5000 miles a year on the car. I also have an impact wrench, and I know that thing is torqueing these bad boys down...does this mean anything? Is something going bad? Or am I crazy (OK no smart remarks)

Melting Slicks
For starters, buy a new set of lugnuts. The mounting face may have been previously contaminated (metallac brake dust particles) which may be acting as a solid lubricant. Also check for abnormal deformation of the wheel mounting interface. Have you previously lubricated your threads? Torque figures should be dry.

I run stock Z06 wheels on the street and GS 17" on the track and have replaced several lug nuts over the years. I never lube the studs either. Now that I think about it....it's usually the older lugs that come loose...hmmm. I probably take my wheels on and off about 30 times a year. I'm going to pick up some new lug nuts and see what that does. I have just never seen lug nuts get worn out?
