Talked to Lou / LG Mortorsports race info inside
Lou called today about the race. He set a new lap record for the course and led the most laps. The car gained 8 MPH on the top end vs. last year. The Vipers got bigger headers and bigger restrict or plates so they gain some real HP for this year. They haven't taken the motor apart yet so he is thinking injector may have went bad and leaned out a cylinder thus hurt a piston. Exhaust valve could have failed. Won't be sure until it is disassembled. Some good in car video to come and the race is on speedtv tomorrow. I guess 4 laps less practice and he would be holding a trophy. Unfortunately that's racing as we all know. St. Pete in two weeks. The other LGM cars finished 6th and 11th which is great for the first time out.

I guess same heads as Vettes were allowed no changes.

Hi GUys,
I thought my 2:10.4 Was a race record, but I checked back to 2004 and the caddys set the former qualifying record and the race lap record, which are two different records.
I have the qualifying record at Lime Rock and Infineon but not the race record at either track.
Pilgrim still has the Sebring race record at 2:10.2 but Leighton has the qualifying record at 2:08.xx
Qualifying Lap
2:09.249 (103.195 MPH)
Max Angelelli, Cadillac CTS-V, 3/18/04
Race Lap
2:10.249 (102.265 MPH)
Andy Pilgrim, Cadillac CTS-V, 3/19/04
As for my race, it went well for 3/4 of the race. it seems now after intital inspection that I dropped a valve but we won't know exactly until we take it apart.
The car was an absolute dream to drive. I messed up qualifying and hit traffic so my fast lap was on lap 3, which is not the fast lap on the tires. But so be it. We knew that we had a winning car so we didn't worry.
I got a great start, passing Archer's Viper before turn 1. then I followed the Mccann Viper until I took the lead.
I Passed the Viper on the second or third lap on the inside of the last turn. Our shock package was great over the bumps so I went inside of the Viper over the bumps to take the lead. Then we put some distance on the Viper and took it easy except for a lap in the middle where I hit some sand or oil on the track in 2 places and the Viper caught up. I had to cover the inside for one corner then I put my head down and put some distance on him again.
Then with 6 or 7 laps to go, the engine mis-fired for a half a lap, then cleared up. Only to start again with 4 laps to go, when disaster struck.
This puts us on a hard climb to the championship but we havet the car to do it. It should be an interesting season.
The race will be on speed TV Sunday afternoon.
thanks
See you at the races.

You had a super run going for ya Lou--we were pulling for you from the outside of turn 1. We have a shot of your car belching flame there, right where you had your issue.
We felt really bad for ya--it was pretty much locked up IMO...
BTW, your cars sound really good. A very clean howl. How does your exhaust setup differ from, say, the CTS-Vs--which are very blatty, similar to the C6.Rs.

Sorry about the engine Lou. You looked to be the class of the field. What happened to Leighton and Gaples? Looked on the live scoring I was watching that they didn't even start.

Thanks guys.
Leighton broke a rear end as we left the line for the pace lap. I don't know what happened to Gaples.
The exhaust of the Caddy has 4 cylinders coming out each side. Our headers go into a "Y" pipe and all 8 cylinders exit on the passenger side.
I agree, the sound is SWEET!
Thanks
Lou G

Lou,
On your exhaust, I believe it is the same as Leighton but I have not asked him about it. Do you have to have a false floor, or is the exhaust still under the floor. If it is under are you having any clearance issues.

Our exhaust has never been below the floor. We run the pipe over the floor and out the rocker through the frame. We box it in to isolate it from the driver compartment. So the lowest part of the car is the floor.
Thanks

Lou there is another thread talking about the CTS chassis. Announcer said the vette & caddy were near identical. What is the difference? Thanks!

Aren't the CTS-V race cars ringers?

Hey, Lou. Sorry to hear about the engine problems, you were certainly running well out there. It was nice to meet you (I met you right before you got ready to head to the track). I hope the rest of the season goes well for ya!

The race was a heartbreaker to watch, but almost getting Claudio in the top 5 was not bad for the first time out. You bet the team will be strong at St. Pete in a couple of weeks.
The CTS-V is a sigma chassis, with the rocker/rails cut off (about 4" worth and the floor pan moved almost the same amount I think. They claim to be using the stock front and rear subframes as well, but have run the car in many configurations. The cage layout looks very C5R like (circa 2003) Lots of engine lowering and setback.
