Default oil cooler/radiator combo drm or lg?

which one do you recomend and why?

or is it better to just go with a stand alone cooler? i track it about 6 times a year and drive it in the cold winters.

The DRM unit has been used by a number of trackheads I know with good results even on very hot days. I've never seen any feedback on the LG set-up, though I expect it works well and costs a bit less, too.

I'm not sure but I think LG is now selling the DeWitts radiator. (See here ) I believe they used to sell BeCool radiators without EOCs.

I don't think you're gonna get much feed back on the DeWitts with engine oil cooler as the new design (with the oil cooler on the drivers side and an optional hose kit) only recently shipped. I got the radiator a couple of weeks ago and was one of the first group to get them. Only today did I receive the hose kit as there were some delays in finalizing the block adaptor design to make sure it would clear at least some brands of long tube headers.

I'm going to test it on the track at Spring Mountain's corvette track days on April 1st & 2nd and will post my results. For now all I can tell you is it sure looks nice

Have the DRM with cooler bought used on here, Fit is excellent, and oil temps have been staying down even with very spirited driving

I've had the LG unit for about about 6 mos. (14 trackdays) and it works as advertized. My temps are lower and I can run full sessions even with 100 deg. ambient temps at the track.

I am sure the two units are equally great.

I personally have the DRM - most likely bc that was the group purchase at the time The unit is great, makes a world of difference, plus the install was easy and straight forward.

The DRM unit is the only way of going. Check out what other people have said about our setup. If you are driving in real cold weather like in the 20's then you may need to bypass the cooler all together. You need about 17 dollars worth of fittings and about 15 minutes to bypass.

Let me know if you have questions,
Randy
PS I am very bias on which unit is the best

Cold weather driving, especially off the track, is an issue. Although an inelegant solution, to maintain oil temp in the best range, why not just mask off part of the radiator in very cold weather?

We'll I got the new DeWitt with the oil cooler on the drvier side and it rocks! I have not done an HPDE with it yet, but my temps have dropped tremendously on the street, which I'm sure will translate on the track as well. The radiator is built A++ and fits nice. I use to have a stock set up, but with fans set to come on at 190 vs the stock 220. Before I reset the fans, my car would run (street) mid-low 200's water, and mid-low 200's oil. With the fans set at 190, the water would be about 198'ish and oil 205 ish.

With the DeWitts on the street, I run 175-180 water, and 176 oil I looked about a half hour ago. It is about 70F outside. I kept the fans set at 190 (not that the car ever gets there on the street) and I have a 160F thermostat. There is NO Redline water wetter, and the stock coolant mixture 50/50. It is just amazing and the radiator is like $600. With the oil cooler on the driver side all the lines were MUCH shorter and cleaner overall (less to go wrong). That is a drop of about 20F with the fans coming on at 190 and a drop of over 30F from stock. I am not saying the DR kit is not awesome as well, just giving my personal on the DeWitt.

My first track day is May 1st at Summit Point, so that will be the 1st test, then Pocono in July at 90F will be the second test. I doubt the oil cooler being on the left will make a difference with this radiaotr. The capacity was almost double. Not sure what temps people are seeing on the street with a standalone oil cooler, but 176F @ 70F (outside) is pretty darn good. Yes this is spirited driving AND the car has an underdrive pulley which should slow the pump down at low RPM and cause it to be warmer, but it's not. Props where they are do...good job Ron!

MATHIA and 95JERSEY

I have a Dewitts with internal EOC coming next week to be followed by install prior to my next track event on April 12.

I also have a 160 stat and was wondering if I should get a hotter (175-180) one because my car is a daily driver most of the time.

Keep in touch ...... lets compare track results ......that what really matters. I almost melted my car last time out

I have the DRM for about 4 years. Actually Randy is wrong it's ten minutes and less than 10 bucks for the by-pass I never see over 225 and redline the car all the time and keep the RPM's up as much as possibe to compete with the big cube guys

I think 175-180 water and 176 oil is OK. I think it's as long as you get over 150?

I've had the DRM/Ron Davis radiator for almost 5 years now. Driven hard at Spring Mountain with the air at 110 degrees, I came off a 30 minute track session with water at 200 and oil at 205, the guy I was running similar lap times with was at 325 (supercharged, stock radiator, no oil cooler). Later that same day it was so hot I fluid locked the power steering, the first and only time that has ever happened, but the oil never got over 220.

DRM combo unit here. During sustained track driving, used to see 225 or so water temps and upwards of 300 oil temps. Now I max water temp around 205 or so, and oil maxes out at 255. BIG improvement!

With my DRM setup, my water temps max around 208 and my oil at 260, but then again I'm in sunny Florida.

Cold weather performance? Is partially masking the radiator/oil cooler a satisfactory solution to low oil temp? Asked this above, but no one chimed in.

Cold seemed ok, takes longer to warm up but we haven't had very cold weather in GA this winter takes about 7 min to get to 130 on the oil

With a combination it's probably the best solution as the EOC also warms the oil when coolant (in the radiator) is above oil temps. If you use this option you will need to watch temps and pull the cover (cardboard) from the radiator as soon as it warms in the spring.
I have done this in the past. However the only combination like this that I have now is my plow truck and I have not had a problem with oil temps even when not plowing so I'd say you might never see a problem with low temps provided you do drive far enough typicaly my stock vette warms in 5 miles of driving where as the truck takes 7-8 to warm up (thermostat open oil over 150)
