Default Kotzian kicks at San Diego Tour

Looks like Kotzian in SS KICKED at the Tour. Less than a tenth behind SM2 (no slouch, GaryT), two tenths faster than ScottyB in ASP! Beat Rita by over 1.2 seconds (I think that somebody on here said that everybody else should just stay home if she was running)...

Wonder if it had anything to do with the shocks he was sellin a month or so ago??????

Tom, want to shed any light on this????

I made the comment about running for second, after I found out that Rita was running SS...of course, at that time Tom wasn't signed up! Great job by a really good guy

Gary coned away his fast runs on both days, or his results would have been at least a second quicker. If you look at the results, you'll find CSP and DSP (Miatas and BMWs) all much faster than SS, ASP and SM2...this was not a course for wide cars! Of course, SS did have to run 1st group, which didn't help, but GS also ran the same group and pax'ed in the top 5...

The only exception was ESP, where the Camaros girth was overcome by what I've been told was incredible driving by Henry Botkin, Ken Motonishi and Tom Berry, all of them pax'ed top 10.

Looks like some "bizarre" results to me. How bad was the course after the Ft. Meyers episode ???? Radically changing conditions through out the day ?????

Danny, if you throw out ESP, the results totally make sense...it was a tight, speed maintenence course that favored narrow cars and Miatas.
ESP is the outlier, and I understand from talking to some folks who were there that, while they benefitted from running 3rd group, that it was just flat out unbelieveable driving by a few very, very talented guys: Botkin, Motonishi and Berry

Not to take anything away from Botkin cuz he was freekin flyin! ESP ran last and the sun was out all day and then it cooled off in the after noon at the end of the day. ASP/SM2 ran together and Gary & I both coned away our fastest runs by at least 8 or 9 tenths...

The course was really tough for a fat car on Saturday and much better on Sunday... Gary was also not driving his own car, he was in Henry Bjoin's car (sp?) a real good guy with a car almost as good as Gary's old ASP car.

LJ was smokin both days finishing only a couple tenths behind Gary and being the ultimate sportsman loaned Feldpush his hot rod so Feldpush could go out (after 2 DNF's) and put down the class leading run in LJ's car!

We'll see how it goes next week at the Pro, man it's gonna be busy... Fontana/Phoenix/Fontana I'm gonna have jet lag before we ever see a checker...

Tom was co-driving Darrel Coverts Z06 on stock 04' shocks.
I always have said Tom is fast, in other peoples cars.

btw Gary drove Henry Bijion's ASP Z06, which is realy just an SS car with a race seat.

If any fast guys in an Elise would have showed the results would have been different, you can get a hint at that by how fast CS was.

Jason, looks like you made a good run at it, Sunday
I'm really bummed I had to work and couldn't go to the event, but as we had planned to take the Z06 instead of the Elise, maybe its just as well...

Sounds like the "after Ft. Meyers" course design antics............

Understand now why Gary Thomason was so slow in relation to all of the above. Scotty's car must have been WAY too fat for that game.

We'll see how it goes next week at the Pro, man it's gonna be busy... Fontana/Phoenix/Fontana I'm gonna have jet lag before we ever see a checker...
I'm feelin' real sorry for you, SBW......I only wish I could enjoy that much seat time.........there shouldn't be too much jet lag, aren't you traveling between to same time zones ???? Anyway good luck.

There is no question Tom is bad fast! Always has been

Not sure where you got your info about Henry's car J, but according to Gary this is supposed to be a car that Motinishi has helped develop as a clone of Gary's/Berry's ASP car... Maybe you know something different than what Gary told me directly...?

And yes especially on Saturday, the narrower the car the faster it went... The pain was eased considerably on Sunday but none of this was as bad as we were afraid it was going to be after Ft Meyers...

Take a look at the Saturday Pax and then look at Sunday pax and you will likely see a patern develop of "narrow -v- fat" on Saturday and "early -v- late" on Sunday

The one thing I can tell you about this hot rod Danny, it has the biggest front end of any car out there by a bunch (cept maybe a 360) but hey, once you finally get the front end around/past/through the gate without knocking it over your job is done cuz the back is narrower than the front

Asphalt... Over the years it has lost a lot of it grip. You want to run mid day as early it is all dirt and late there is only one line.

btw, check McWho in AS, only .3 off Tom for the weekend.
