I have 3 Z06's that I prep for DE's and I use Royal Purple Syncro-max Gear lube for the tranny and the Max Gear gear lube in the rear-end. Since the cars didn't run coolers last year I changed it out once throughout the year, the Syncro-max seemed to hold up pretty good, but the gear lube was burn, which was expected.
I'm also going to try there Max-Cool this year, similar to Water Wetter, since it's not a really good idea to use coolant on a race track.
I'm not trying to push Royal Purple products, it's what a local speed shop carries so I tried it and it seems to work fine.
Before the Syncro-Max came out I would use Mobil 1 ATF for the tranny which worked O.K. too. I just think with the higher temps a synthetic is the way to go, they just have a higher heat range and will not break down as quickly as petro-based products.

FWIW, I use Mobile 1 products throughout the car.
I change the engine oil every 2 or 3 events (500-600 miles). Mobile 5w-30.
I change the transmission lubricant 3 times a year unless I get a high temp warning, then I change it immediately. Mobile 1 ATF.
I change the diff lub 2 times a year. Mobile 1 90W (?)

Like 96collector I'm using RP in the Z06. Same stuff, MaxGear and Synchromax. I'm also using their Synthetic PS fluid and their 5w-30 oil. Before my next event I'm swapping the oil over to their Racing 21.
I like their products and a local dealer gets them for me at a great price. I'm going to be changing the oil pretty soon and send a sample off to Blackstone to see what they think of it after I'm done abusing it...
The best thing I noticed going to the RP was the Synchromax. It smoothed the tranny out and made shifting require less effort.
I still don't think you can go wrong with Mobil, Redline, Amsoil, Royal Purple. It's more a matter of personal preference.

Engine: Amsoil 5w40
Trans: Amsoil Synthetic ATF
Dif: Amsoil severe-duty gear oil
I changed the trans/dif in spring of '05 but only ran 2 events after the change. I'll run the Mazdadriver's event at the end of march then swap them both before the June event.
I change my oil every 6k or before a track event.

Oil - Mobil 1 0-w40 going back to 15-w50 - change two track weekends-
radiator - Water and Water wetter - as needed
Clutch fluid - Castrol LMA Dot3-4 (it is brake fluid anyway) suck out the old and replace with new evey event
Powersteering - Mobil 1 ATF ( same stuff just different color then PS Fluid) each event.
Trans - Mobil 1 ATF - 4 events
Diff - Mobil 1 Gear oil - 4 events
Brake Fluid: Castrol SRF
Blood type O+ - havent yet.
Beer of choise - "You dont buy beer you rent it" Archie Bunker
Meet a Ouaker state ( friken keu button dosnt work) Rep. Asked me if I want to try his products. I said I am always open to partnership perposals, what did you have in mind??

Oil: AMSOIL 0w30 synthetic
Diff: AMSOIL Severe Gear Lube
Tranny: Stock
Water: Water + water wetter
Brake Fluid: Motul 600 DOT 4
Thinking of moving to a 40 wt oil for the track, but will try out the 0w30 once or twice. Used 5w30 mobile before that with good results.

I think the idea is to go to a heavry wt oil not a lighter weight like 0w30.
I only use 0-w40 in the winter months as the heavey 15-w50 take forever to warm up.
event M1 40 weight does not have the high heat tollearnces of a 50W.

In answer to your question about RP, I have never, nor will I ever, use it. Redline uses a Group V ester basestock. AMSOIL and Mobil 1 use a Group IV PAO basestock. What does RP use? I have no idea because their website doesn't say what they use. They also don't share High Temp High Shear ratings as do Redline, AMSOIL and Mobil 1.

I have tried Mobil 1 and Redline ATF for the M6. Neither one of those can compare to this stuff called BG synthetic ATF. On the track this stuff out performs those other brands by a bunch. It shifts way smoother. My trans might blow apart using this stuff, but it sure works great far as shifting goes.
I probably do about 15 track days a year, plus autocross.

You guys using 15-50, are you running the stock close tolerances? I am goingto Putnam park and figure it will be high 70's low 80's for ambient and was thinking a heavier oil than 5-30 would be a good idea. Thanks in advance.

Oil: Redline 10W-40 change every other event in spring/fall; every event in summer
Tranny: Redline D4 ATF change every third event
Diff: Redline 75W-90 change every third event
Power Steering: Redline PS fluid change every third event
Brake: Motul RBF 600 flush/change every other event
Clutch: Motul RBF 600 change every event
Don't forget to add an extra quart of oil before a track weekend and check it after EVERY session. I usually end up adding a quart over the weekend.
To me changing fluids often is just cheap insuarance!! Trust me...I blew several motors in my previous car (Mustang 351W 400rwhp 430 rwtq) due to fluid issues.

A motor oils viscosity is measured and reported at two temps, 40C (about 104F) and 100C (212F). At each temp, there are defined weight catagories corresponding to a certain viscosity. The higher the weight, the higher the oils viscosity is. For example, a 30 weight at 212F has a viscosity between 9.30 and 12.49 cSt. A 40 weight has a viscosity at 212F of 12.50 - 16.29 cSt. An oil's cold or winter weight is the first number, e.g. 5w or 10w. The second number is its hot weight, e.g. 30 or 40 or 50. But, don't let the fact that the second number is bigger than the first confuse you. The oil is much much thicker when cold and has a much higher viscosity. For example, AMSOIL 5w30 has a viscosity of 57.3 at 40C and only 10.6 at 100C.
From what I've read, the engine is designed to operate with an oil with a viscosity in the range of 10-12 cSt. Okay, that is easy as a 30 weight oil at 212F, which is near normal operating temp has this viscosity. Whether you have a 0w30, 5w30 or 10w30 is somewaht immaterial. All of these are 30 weights when hot.
The issue comes in when tracking the car and the oil is heated well above 212F. As the oil heats up, its viscosity goes down... fast. I've read that a 30 weight has a viscosity of near 3-4 cSt as it approaches 300F, thus the oil's viscosity is about three times lower than ideal. Thus for that reason, most of us tracking the car use a heavier oil. Which one to use is dependent on a lot of factors including how hot it is outside, whether the car has an oil cooler or not, how long the session is, all of which contribute to the oils temp during the session. I think the actual oil temp is the best indicator of what weight you should use, with oil pressure a close and related second.
Two weekends ago at CMP, during a race in 40F ambient temps, I ran AMSOIL 10w40 and my oil temps ran just under 240F and my oil pressure at full throttle was 50-55 psi, which I think is about right. In the hot Midwest summer in Memphis the past two seasons, I've run AMSOIL Series 2000 20w50.
A measure of how well an oil will hold up under conditions such as tracking the car is the High Temp High Shear (HTHS) rating. This rating measures the oil's viscosity at 150C (about 300F) under a shear load of 1.0 X 10^6. Many oil companies, such as Royal Purple, don't share this info. AMSOIL and Mobil 1 do and use the same test method making direct comparison possible. The comparison is interesting and shows you what the heavier oils do for you as the temp of the oil is raised to near 300F (all data from AMSOIL and Mobil 1 websites):
AMSOIL Series 2000 20w50 – 5.1
AMSOIL High Performance 20w50 – 4.9
Mobil 1 EP 15w50 – 4.43
AMSOIL High Performance 10w40 – 4.3
Mobil 1 EP 10w40 – 3.9
AMSOIL European 5w40 – 3.7
Mobil 1 0w40 – 3.6
AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 – 3.4
Mobil 1 EP 10w30 – 3.21
AMSOIL SAE 10w30 – 3.2
AMSOIL SAE 5w30 – 3.2
Mobil 1 10w30 – 3.14
Mobil 1 5w30 – 3.09
Mobil 1 EP 5w30 – 3.08
Mobil 1 0w30 – 2.99
As for the tranny, it requires a transmission fluid meeting GM Dexron III standards.
The diff requires a synthetic 75w90 with 4 oz of friction modifier, but as mentioned above, many fluids such as AMSOIL Severe Gear 75w90 (which I use) and Redline 75w90 come with this modifier in them so no extra is needed unless the diff chatters.

First change for tranny & diff and used Royal Purple. Like VMS4EVR (Graham) noticed a change in shifting - smoother!. Like the others here I change oil (Mobil 1) and brake fluid every other event.
Cheers!

Hey Mountainbiker,
I found and have been using for over a year now 10/30 Pure Power eng oil, High Temp ATF Tranny fluid and 75/90w diff oil form same manufacture with great results: 10-15<eng oil temps 10psi >eng oil psi(w/Pure power no bypass alum reusable oil filter. Being a firefighter by trade, I'm a huge skeptic and do not jump into new products but this stuff is solid! I took engine oil w/ 3 hard weekend events and month of street driving had it tested against mobile 1(which I used to use continuously) and it had a higher TBN rating than the newer Mobile 1. I run this in all my vehicles since with no issues. If you are interested pm me and I will give you further info.
Just my 2 bits!
