Default Need help, front end "clunk"

So, I autocrossed my Z06 all weekend at the AAS Atwater event and everything went great...anyhow, now I have a little clunking which definitely sounds like its front end oriented, which I discovered this morning as I was driving to work. It seems to be worst on low speed bump impact and actually doesn't seem to happen at highway speeds.

So, I pulled the front wheels quickly to take a look, thinking it was something like a sway bar end link (which I've swapped a couple of times, I now have the stockers) or maybe a busted shock, but everything looks ok. I didn't look at the sway bar bushings, have they ever been known to walk out of their brackets? I also looked at the LCA's and the bushings appear the same as always, plus if it was the LCA bushings I would think I would be able to feel the clunk through the steering wheel, which I can not.

Any ideas, before I start pulling stuff apart tonight? I'm kind of in a rush, I'm supposed to be running this car next weekend at the San Diego tour event

I've never had a front end clunk... mine was rear and it was caused by under torqued lower sawy bar bushing mount b/c it holds the lower control arm too.

Check the torque specs on everything you can get a wrench on.

Every clunk I've had to deal with has been the sway bar end links.

Have a good one,
Mike

I'm pretty sure the noise is from up front, but I've been wrong before...

I am going to be checking all fasteners for correct torque, that's good advice we should all be paying attention to prior to any event...the "creeper tour"

Make sure to check the wheel bearings to knuckle fasteners, they like to become loose on abused cars. Check all ball-joint and tie rod fasteners too.

I was thinking front wheel bearings are known wear items, but I would think a bearing would make a constant noise if it was going?

yeah sometimes they make noise, some time they dont. just make sure they are securely fastened to the knuckle, I have seen them be really loose before (the BOLTS)

Thanks. Hopefully I can get out of here (work) early enough to get a chance to see what I've got going on, tonight.

Add this one to the list...

I finally got a chance to really look at it tonight and, even though the end links looked tight, one of the nuts had backed off just a bit...and I mean just a bit. Anyhow, I tightened all the end link nuts and everything seems copacetic, took it for a ride and no more clunking.

I guess the combination of a slight bind and then powerful release, through a bar, makes quite a resonant racket...

Thanks, all.

Yep, its nice when you find it and fix it with a minimal amount of head scratching...

Danny, its supposed to be dry down at SD, but I had to cancel because of some work related stuff...I just can't get out of here Friday and probably will be putting in some time on Saturday, as well. Guess I'm going to have to wait until Atwater for some tour experience
