I used Pledge for years in the 70's, it gave a quick cheap silicone shine on black cars, I would never use Pledge on a fiberglass or composite panel car, I have seen and hear too many horror stories from customers and body shops through the years about silicone products.

As reported earlier,
"Lemon Pledge is mostly water, the silicone it uses is Polydimethylsiloxane, which is water-based not petroleum-based."
So, its safe for all finishes, acryllic clear or older lacquer based paints.
I have only heard good things from the show guys who used it to put them over the top!
Everyone has their preference on quick detailers..
This is just one in the mix...

I like Pledge on any plastic product. It is also great on leather and for the dash. It's also the best product for tires and wheels. I wouldn't be without it. Fantastic stuff, AND it doesn't turn your paint into the crummy "saran wrap" look like Zaino does.

I have NO idea what you just said...
Lemon Pledge doesn't "attract" dust like you say.
No more or less than any other product...
You comments seem to be more of an opinion, that fact or thru experience.
Like Killer wheels said..
This is nothing new, and most people already know about it.
If there was any harm or damage EVER done by using this, it surely would have come to the forefront by now....especially over all these years that guys are using it..

Maybe someone should contact Johnson & Johnson, or whomever the manufacturer is and ask them what their opinion is..I'm thinking about testing this on my wife's explorer..

I'm really surprized that Pledge has been around for over 50 years as a funiture polish if it attracts dust like you say it does!!! If you go to some of the upper end car shows (Where most of the cars are $100,000.00 plus) you will see all kinds of products in use. One car with a 80,000.00 paint job and a 300,000.00 car was putting on Piano Wax and pledge on the nice custom interior. Also, you will so very very little sealant ever being used on any upper end cars.

Sent note off to www.pledge.com
I quit using Pledge over 20 years ago IN MY HOME because is attracted A LOT of dust to my furniture. My previous note was based on experince. I don't need to have experience using it on my C5 to know what was going to happen when placed on the exterior.
There is an ad and coupon in Sunday's local newspaper indicating "New Pledge Anti-Dust Formula". SCJohnson may have improved it since I last used it. That's good news to those on the car show circuit, right?
But think logically about this.... If they now claim that their current Pledge product is now "Anti-Dust", they must have realized their OLD Pledge attracted dust, right? That backs-up my previous assertion.
In any case, to put this item "to bed" for good, I sent a series of questions off to their website asking specifically their company's position on applying the product to an automobile's surface, etc. etc. If they recommend their product for use on an automobile's painted exterior, I'll appologize publicly on this forum, OK?

Results from SCJohnson inquiry about Pledge
Below is the information I received back on my questions regarding Pledge:
Thank you for your e-mail regarding PLEDGE® Furniture Polish. We always appreciate hearing from our consumers.
When used according to label directions, PLEDGE® Furniture Polish can be used on vinyl dashboards and sealed leather seats.
None of our products are recommended for exterior vehicle paint. They are not formulated for weather extremes and we have not tested them on these surfaces. Also, furniture products contain no abrasives which are necessary to remove old, oxidized paint.
Please use the product according to label directions as we cannot guarantee how the product will perform for uses or purposes other than those we have tested.

No one uses it for protection, or weather extremes...
Its used as a 1 time gloss enhancer prior to judging at shows.
Its been proven over the years to be completely safe & effective!
If you don't believe me & the many others who have used it in this manner for many years, PLEASE line up against our cars in a show!
The shinest car WINS!

I tried it on an old beat up buick (That peachy/gray/cream color...) It was oxidized as all get out, after spraying it down you could read large print in the shine!
It works...
It works...

I published EXACTLY what I received back from SCJohnson. I never asked the protection question. That bit of information was supplied solely by the person who replied back to me. I don't know why the person mentioned protection. I wanted to provide the complete answer that I received back for all those who cared. Anyone who knows anything about detailing knows Pledge does nothing for protection. Maybe she thought we were all idiots to even be discussing the subject... I DON'T KNOW.
My specific questions to them were in regard to testing their company's technicians/scientists did with respect to long term effects and collecting dust on exterior paint. I never received an answer to those questions...probably because they did none.
Since they are the owners of the formula and don't recommend it, that's good enough for me not to take the risk. I admire those of you that "live on the edge". I hope you all win lots of awards and your vehicles survive.

Dude...
Get real....
Using it is NOT living on the edge...
That is so ridiculous.
Nothing has happened to ANY car that used it.
For close to 30 yrs now guys have been using it.
Don't you think the car world would have heard or known about a particular product that destroyed a car if it indeed happened by now...??
Have you seen the pics of my cars earlier in this thread?
They have no damage at all.
In fact, they gleem, more than almost any other car.
And yes, parts of them have been repainted, with NO problems.
I wish all you experts who think something MUST be bad, because you never heard of it being used in a particular manner would get your head out of your azz & at least be open to the fact that certain products CAN be used for other than their popular accepted use...
Example:
A) Look at ALL the uses for WD-40.
Intended as a lubricant, but people use it in a vast amount of ways. Bug & tar cleaner, gum remover, fish attractant, windsheild de-icer.. etc...
B) Toothpaste:
did you know people use this as a cleaner for their diamonds?
See, just because a product is sold or marketed in a particular manner, does not mean that is its sole purpose....
You try to tell us that using Lemon Pledge is "living on the edge", and infer that we might be damaging our car's finish, but in reality, YOU have NO experience in using it, and have not spoken to anyone who uses it. All the manfacturer said is, it was not "made" for that purpose.
Wax Guru's test, tried it with stellar results,
Show car guys use it with stellar results,
guys in this thread have stated they already use it or tried it with stellar results.
Why continue to argue & tell us something that isn't true?
We KNOW its safe.
We KNOW no one's car ever got destroyed...
So whats the problem?
The problem is closed minded guys like you, who just can't phantom using a product for something other than its original marketed use..
Time to wake up....
