Default Dupont Teflon Products?

Just saw them advertised. To my unscientific mind it seems like Teflon protection would be a good thing for a finish. Anyone try them?

I don't really like to get into recommending waxes. I did see that DuPont display in a store. There used to be a bit of confusion about Teflon's (PTFE) ability to bond with the automotive surface when applied at a low heat.

However, I do know that DuPont has been working on a Teflon coating for wheels and getting them OEM approved which can take a very long time on the testing.

There are a lot of products in their new paint care line and they all say with Teflon protection. I don't know how good it will be as an automotive coating. Should one get a scratch that needs to be be removed how difficult would it be to get down to the paint and work on the scratch? My guess, and this is purely a guess as I have absolutly no knowledge of the product, is it will require a one of their solvents or an abrasive.

However, if it could as an wax would be wonderful as water spotting and bird crap would be very much reduced/elimiated as a threat.

It flies in the face from what Dupont said a long time ago:

IMHO Teflon in a car wax does zero........

That's old news. DuPont has been under constant reserch on the product and new application methods. If DuPont, themselves, release a product that uses PTFE, it's probably been put through some rather rigerous testing.

The article you've posted uses a quite from 15 years ago

Teflon is abrand name version of a polymer. They have been adding it to products over the years for marketing purposes. Dupont themselvs dismissed its use in wax type products. It may work. But is it anything to get excited about vs a high quality non brand name polymer I doubt it. Its probably just making money on name recognition. Its Even being marketed in Clorox Toilet Cleaning Products.

DuPont isn't even making the product. They licensed the names (DuPont and Teflon) to Tenneco Automotive (who makes shocks and exhaust systems) and they are the ones making or marketing (not sure which) the automotive appearance products.

Based on the feedback I've had from large retailers, it's not selling. I know of 1 retailer who received $1,000,000 (yep, one million dollars) in placement//marketing funds for putting the product in. They're thinking about sending it back since it's selling so poorly. Of course, they'll keep the placement funds.
