Polished the front fenders and hood of the car at the weekend with Autoglym Super Resin Polish and Turtle Wax Top Coat Sealer. Everything looks great and the passenger-side front fender feels smooth as a baby's bottom. However, when I run my hand over the hood, although smooth, I can feel 'bits' stuck to the panel. Not big enough to see, but I assume they're tiny spots of tree sap, possibly mixed in with some minute tar spots, etc. How do I get rid of those short of using some kind of mild rubbing compound all over the hood? Is a clay bar the answer? I love that silky smooth feel on my fender, but the little bits I can feel on the hood kinda spoils the effect :(

Clay will remove surface contaminants such as sap, spots, overspray, etc. I would recommend to clay your car at least once a year before your season begining detail (before polish).

I just clayed my car yesterday. It was much easier then I thought and it turned out pretty well. I thought more dirt would end up on the clay, but the previous owner of my car used Zanio and it must still of been really clean.

Mother's makes a good clay bar, but I prefer to use the traditional water/wash lubricant rather than the Showtime Instant Detailer that comes with the Mother's kit. Another good bar that is available at most auto parts stores is the blue Clay Magic bar.

Clay bar it baby!
I just did mine for hte first tiem today. Yesterday I tried in on a spot on my 89 Camaro that's been sitting unused for ~5 years. "Damn!"
Like a ba baby's be-hind!
I've got video and stills of the car before and after. I'll be finishsing them up tomorrow and writing a review of the whole deal with footage to show in the next day or two. I have to wait until tomorrow to get the after pictures taken under the same ligthting conditions.
Clay bar. It's easy and amazing. I had stuff that chemical cleaners simply could not get off and the Zaino Clay bar did it.
