What is Butter Wax??

After cars are repainted at the auto dealership body shop where my wife works, they then buff them and apply a Butter Wax. Does anyone know what this is exactly??

Butter wax is a high silicone wax that shines good but lasts a very short time, see Steve's link, our shops used it for a while years ago.

Many years ago, my dad bout a used car...they cleaned it then applied Butter Wax...as someone who appreciates a good shine in his car I was blown away...next day it rained and the car was outside...the shine was gone! Needless to say, Butter Wax has never made it into my "inventory of finish products." (Come to think of it, since Carl "strong armed" me into blowing all my money on Zaino products...I have no inventory of products that don't begin with "Z"...Thanks, Sal!)
