Detailing Cloth
Hi Guys,
Has anyone heard of or used a special detailing cloth or mitt with the features of a clay bar? Our local body shop has a couple of them and apparently you wash the car and then use the cloth gently - no need to press hard - with your favourite detailer fluid and it acts like a clay bar. Rinse off and the paint looks amazing. The body shop swears by them and says they are not abrasive. Their new painter brought them with him and got them as a promo from a supplier. No one knows where to buy them? Just wondered if anyone has tried them and if so, where can you buy 'em.
Thanks!

Ask in the car care section. There are vendors of this kind of stuff that hang around there. Come back and let us know if you find out.

I use the nanoskin version of this. They are like a small sponge with a black rubbery surface on one face. They are way less work than using a clay bar.

Clay bar alternatives are somewhat controversial. Somewhat of a classic old school v.s. new school debate.
Be a bit careful with both clay and alternatives...a polishing MIGHT be necessary afterwards. Marring has been known to happen.
Alternatives come in several forms. Towels like you described, sponges, and pads that can be attached to a polisher. I use Nanoskin sponges, with LOTS of detail spray as a lube. Works really well and hasn't caused any marring.
