Hard water spots on the glass??
I read in Car and Driver that you could use a green/yellow kitchen scrub pad with vinegar to remove these. Is this right? Will it hurt anything if I do?

I would skip the pad and just try white vinegar rubbed on with a cloth or you can also try a clay bar. If all of that fails you have some tough spots, so Zaino Z-12 Glass Polish will be in order as it will remove any water spot from any glass.

Simple Green now puts out a hard water spot remover in a spray bottle - mostly made for shower doors but with a little care it should work well for your windows as well. It's pretty efficient stuff.

0000 Steel wool and "Lime Away". Use rubber gloves as this stuff is hard on the hands. Use small amounts.
If the spots are resistant to the above, then you'll need to get cerium oxide which is sometimes referred to as jewelers rouge. Use with a terry cloth...may take lots of elbow grease.
Use nothing coarser tha 0000 steel wool...some grades o scotch brite pads CAN scratch glass.

Yes, more than likely, water spot stains on glass can attach themselves so tight it takes a cream abrasive like Z-12 to remove them. Next time you are in a parking lot look at all the other cars, 90% of the cars in the lot will have windows covered with nasty water stains, course most people don't give a damn how their car looks.

I tried everything I could find to eliminate water spots on glass but nothing worked until I tried Z-12. I saturated a new bug cleaning sponge with window spray and then dropped little dabs of Z-12 on the glass. As I rubbed and rubbed the feel was much like using a clay bar in that the friction felt less with each succesive rub until finally I could not feel any friction. I couldn't believe how well my 6 month old windshield polished up. The improvement was major and repeated use would probably eliminate all traces of water spots-until more spots formed. :yesnod:

I finally concluded that blow drying allows the build up of water spots on the glass. Z-12 took the new ones off easily today and I love the feel of that smooth glass. :yesnod:
Next wash I think I will try towel drying the glass to see if I can stop new spotting. :cry
