Default Light scratches on carbon fiber roof (ZR1)

I recently purchased a 2010 ZR1 that has minor scratches on the carbon fiber roof.

I'm assuming I can polish just like the painted surface, but wanted to hear from the PRO's first.

My plan is least aggressive first - 085rd & LC tangerine w/FLEX 3401.

Also would like to know about the polycarbonate window on the hood (do's & dont's)

Thanks in advancve for the direction.

start off wetsanding at 1200grit and work up to at least 2000grit then polish with a good rubbing/polishing setup. As for the poly window, go to any plastic sheeting store and buy a polish called novus. Works excellent.

Your plan is fine, LEAST aggressive first and see if it gives you the results your looking for.

Last thing I would do is start wet sanding anything as a starting point.

85rd and Tang pad wont cut it. 85rd is a jeweling finishing polish with barely any cut at all. I would suggest megs 205 w/ tang pad and if that doesn't cut it, bump up to cyan pad and m105, then follow that with 205/tang. that should take care of it. if it doesn't fix it, then maybe slight wetsanding, (no more then 2000grit) and then fix those wetsand marks with the cyan/105 combo followed by the 205/tang. and that will take care of it if all else fails.

PS. try not to wetsand if you don't have to. determining the clear coat thickness on CF panels is very hard unless you have the proper paint thickness gauge that reads non metallic surfaces. such as the PosiTector® 200 Series

if the 105 does not do it , leave it alone , the clear coat on the roof is 60k per gallon.

I would tread very carefully in polishing any of the carbon fiber on the Zr1 due to the cost and product used to protect it. Once you break that barrier you will start to see fading over time. Check your manual and perhaps live with it if its not to noticable.

/\ This is terrible advice for your situation.

I'd see where you get with 85rd and most likely leave it alone after that.

I purchased a Z06 with the Z07 performance package & carbon fiber package. The carbon fiber roof seemed to have some scratches, even after I washed it.

So, this weekend, I used a clay bar on the entire car, including the roof and waxed afterwards. There was not one single scratch and it looked absolutely amazing. The roof looks like a black mirror.

Maybe try this before anything else.
