Default What is Zaino?

OK, I'm sure that this is a pretty dumb question, but I had figured out from context in other posts that it appeared to be a wash solution. Then I just saw a post that talked about getting a brand new C5, and the first thing to do with it was

"
Dawn, claybar, Z1,Z2,Z6,Z2,Z6,Z2,Z6,Z2,Z6,
"

And this description really threw me.

I've looked all over the FAQ and other parts of the site, and can't find a description of what zaino is or a link to the mfg. Can someone help out this poor, clueless, (vetteless) person.

Thanks

Zaino is a polish... er... Well it's not a polish; it's a wax--that isn't a wax. I suppose you could safely call it a finish protectant. However, it is much more. Zaino users--such as myself--are not allowed to use any other product on their cars and they will flame you if you claim you have. If Sal Zaino said there was a spacecraft waiting for us, we would probably arrange to have our Corvettes ready for pick up at the specified location. There are also rumors that Zaino has been proven to stop cancer, grow hair, and enrich your sex life. However, women have disputed the claim of greater bedtime performance because they claim we are in our garage more than in bed. Finally, currently the government is looking into mandating a warning label because there seems to be an addiction problem once used for the first time. If purchased, please keep it away from small children. There is no proof, but Sal may be targeting the next generation. Users have actually applied Zaino to diecast cars and are praising the effects. More research is needed before such claims can be verified.

Quite simply, it is one of the best products you can buy for protecting your paint. (But then, I've been sniffing the stuff too.)

Wax. And it is pretty much an exclusive Corvette wax. I dont see it used a lot outside of here. NOT THAT IT DOESNT WORK, but the shine is a bit shallow. It lacks depth.

I prefer Carnuba. For as often as I wax anyway, the lasting effect of Zaino is irrelevent.

It DOES work, but it is a different kind of shine. Try it. Let us know,,,,,,,

God Bless America, where we can have differing opinions. :flag But Zaino is not wax. Wax is what you put on a car that needs it because there are flaws in the paint. Polish or glaze is the product of choice for good paint.

I used Mequires No. 7 glaze for years with good results. Now I'm using Zaino.

Here's an example of shallow, lacking in depth  Zaino results on a couple of Black Corvettes:

AMEN.... :yesnod: this is very true.. the shine and look you get from zaino is NOT the same as you will get with wax. you're in for something a WHOLE lot better in my opinion... but some prefer the wax look. so try it and see which one you like best. :)

Boy. We can REALLY tell a LOT from a PICTURE on the internet.

Incorrect. Polish is for DAMAGED paint. Paint that has swirl marks, etc.

Glad I could clear this up for you.

ACTUALLY, wax is the LAST thing to go on your paint

[Modified by Thomas, 7:59 AM 5/17/2002] After all the flaws have been fixed/hidden
Glad I could clear this up also.

I prefer Carnauba wax personally. Zaino is good. VERY good. But the shine is different in my eyes. It lasts a long time, but this really doesnt matter to me as I wax once a month anyway. Also, I dont drive my car daily, so the wax tends to last a bit longer.

Zaino is not really "Wax" per-say. Or polish. However, you are using it like wax and polish. To hide imperfections (polish) and protection and shine (Wax)

Like I said, I tried it. I liked it. But I prefer Caraunba better. Zaino is synthetic. A Lot of chemicals,,,,,,, Try it. Judge for yourself. Sal Zaino is a corvette buff from WAY back. His cars have been featured in magazines, and he was a writer for Vette mag also. (Dont think he ever had a byline though) He knows a thing or two,,,,,,,,

What I am curious about, is how he developed this stuff? Where did the money for R&D come from. He doesnt seem to be a big operation. Synthethic wax scares me. PERIOD

ps: The big Pebble Beach Councours show? The winners are usually Ferrari, and 90% of the time, carnauba.

So where can I get this Carnauba stuff from, is that in stores? I've been using this stuff called Liquid Glass. It goes on easy and comes off easy and the resoles are ok, but from seeing and hearing what all this others stuff does what I'm using doesn't compare....
Thanks for all the info.

Yup. Meguires is one, they are in stores. I use Griots. Mail order. look on the label. It will say.

I am going to get flamed to DEATH here for not being a Zaino-ca-holic. Watch. Some people here are RABID Zaino fans.

I am 40 years old. I have been waxing cars since I was 16. I have tried everything. I keep coming back to carnauba. For me, it's the safest, and the deepest shine

Fire up the flamethrowers boys!!!!!! :D

And BTW: I sat in on a meeting at 3M, ( am a contractor there, I worked in automotive department for a spell) with a couple paint manufacturers. They recommend NO synthetics. The reason they last so long is they bond to the paint, (As does wax) It doesnt allow the paint to breathe. They would know, its their product.
