My brother purchased an 07 335 Coupe and it was in fairly great condition. No major scratches...only swirls.
From a distance the car looks fine:
However, upon inspection we see that the swirl marks are everywhere!
The first step was to give the car a nice thorough car wash using the 2 bucket system and grit guards.
After the wash the car started looking good...but not good enough.
We then used some clay to get rid of any contaminants that the wash left behind.
Up next we taped up the car using 3M painters tape.
We used M105 and an orange LC pad to tackle the swirls:
After the M105 we went on to use M205, and took the car outside to see if there were spots we missed or needed a second pass.
Our goal was 85% removal of swirl marks, and it seems that we achieved that with only 1 pass of M105 and M205, both with an orange pad.
Next up we were ready for Megs NXT 2.0, we applied it by hand, you can see it here on the hood:
We used Megs Tire Dressing and Klasse AIO for the wheels.
By the time we finished the sun was already down so we couldn't get too many good shots, but you can definitely see the gloss and reflection in the white paint.
The swirls were gone for the most part, except for RIDS like these...but we were happy with the results since it is a daily driver.
Looking good , and I like the way you worded it, "looking for 85% correction".
For the vast majority of people out there this is more than enough. We (me included) get so caught up in achieving results that are so far beyond what is necessary when you consider what cars have to endure on a regular basis, and most of us are not driving $250k cars.
Looks like you are using an awful lot of polish though?
What I did while polishing is rotate my pads. I used 2 pads for the car, I would do 1 panel then move on to another panel with a different pad. After the pad had 2 or 3 passes then I would wash them and PC dry them. I don't think that I used a lot of m105, I broke the car down into 38 sections, and used 2 quarter size amounts per pad. It was pretty easy to remove so I take it that it was enough.
Nice work. I also gave some love for my 2 yr. old Bimmer. Got most of the swirls buffed out and applied 4 coats of Dodo Diamond white and few coats of red mist. This should help me get through the winter... At least until Christmas... Or maybe next week.
