Default Clay bar a new car?

Should I clay bar my brand new 09? It had been at the dealershjp since last July and we just purchased it a couple of weeks ago.

Hi, Put a baggie on your hand and gently rub your paint. It it feels gritty it needs clay bared until it is perfectly smooth.

Put your hand in a plastic sandwich bag and run it over the surface of your hood. If the surface feels rough versus smooth then clay bar is suggested.

I agree with the evaluation process from the two above posts. However I think you can almost guarantee you that using a clay bar will be worth while. I've detailed many brand new vehicles and I'm totally amazed by how many contaminants are tightly bonded on the paint. It certainly may not be necessary but it almost certainly will be helpful to the overall detail. If you need any more detailing tips for how to use the clay bar please read our Detailing Guide. If you have any other questions please let me know.

claying should be considered on all new cars, rail dust and other contaminents can effect the quality of your finish from the beginning. We offer a light clay for those finishes in good condition and those that like to clay often.

When I purchased the my 09 in September, the first thing i did when returning from Bowling Green was Dawn and Clay Bar, then the whole Zaino treatment. I have very pleased with the results and found the car very easy to keep looking great. I attribute that to the initial Clay Bar and the Zaino system.

Just make sure you wash your car before you rub your hand on it with a baggy, no need to rub in any dirt and scratch it.
