Default What is the best wax to use on my black vette?

I know that this was probably done to death but what does everyone think the best product for a black car. I used maguires NXT before winter. Let me know your thoughts!!!

It depends on whether you want a straight-up wax, or a sealant. Lots of pro's and con's to both. The NXT you used is a sealant and is far more durable than a wax; however waxes are said to offer a warmth that sealants can't. They almost glow and give depth.

I have a black Vette too. I used Zaino exclusively last year (a leading polymer/sealant) with great results, but over winter I integrated Pinnacle Souveran to the routine. May go exclusively Souveran this year to try it out. Souveran is a straight-up wax that is said to provide unreal results on deep reds and blacks, but needs to be re-applied a lot more frequently.

Those are my votes... however there's literally dozens of EXCELLENT waxes and sealants both!

edit: Below is the Zaino shine showing off at Alaska's biggest car show last year. Very reflective stuff!

I did the clay bar cleaning then used Meguiars NXT generation. Alot of work, but worth the results. It is smooth as a baby's A$$. Also has a real nice shine. Just My .02 worth.

You'll get as many opinions as there are members on the Forum. Just the other day someone posted about a new product called Turtle Wax Black Box and he had some great results so I decided to buy some and I'll give it a try in the next couple of weeks. Alot of people use Zaino and I have used it for the past few years and it's a good choice but I do think it is over-rated. It does leave a brilliant shine but the results I acheived from their swirl remover weren't great. Black cars are a real bear to achieve flawless results as they show every imperfection and until I find that perfect finish I guess I'll keep looking.

Prepping the paint properly is one of the best ways to really improve the appearance of the paint. Therefore using a clay bar and polish is a great foundation for a quality detail. If you would like more information about how to properly prep your paint please let me know.

As for protection I usually recommend a sealant and/or wax. Sealants tend to be a lot more durable but maybe not quite as deep as wax in terms of gloss. I generally recommend a sealant for any daily driver or for any vehicle that is not detailed pretty regularly. My favorite sealant is the Chemical Guys Jetseal 109. It is one of the most durable sealants I have ever used and it looks great on all colors, including black. As for waxes there are a ton of great waxes for black paint. I really like the Dodo Juice Purple Haze and Dodo Juice Blue Velvet, they both look amazing! The Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax and Blackfire Midnight Sun are also two other good options. I hope this information was helpful, if you need more information to make an informed decision, let us know.

When I had black I tried a few things.

I started out with Zaino, using the Z5 and the Z2. The Z5 was good for masking some of the minor swirls that showed up in the sunlight and then Z2 really gave it the shine.

I also have tried Menzerna IP & FP with great results as well, and also Meguires #26 High-Tech wax. Both of these were great, but they didn't last as long as the Zaino. They were about equal in minimizing the appearance of the swirls and whatnot, but in the end the Z5 and Z2 held up longer.

I also really like how Zaino only gets better and better the more you layer it on. Just know that Zaino is more of a sealant/protectant than a wax. It still gives a great shine like a wax, it's just a different substance. If you don't care whether it's wax or a sealant and just want what's going to look good on black, last the longest and hide those swirls as best as you can I'd go with Zaino.

But in the end, the swirls are going to show up on black regardless, which is why I traded it for VY. Unless you are good with an orbital and have the time to keep up on it, black is a pain to manage.

I still use Zaino on my VY Vette, but I no longer use the Z5 since the swirls aren't nearly as noticable on yellow.

i used Rejex last year and was happy with the results.

2 weeks ago when the weather broke i used Adams Buttery Wax and the visual results are dramatically improved over the Rejex. I will continue to use Rejex on my DD (xterra), but for my vette. I'll be using wax from now on. The visual results are worth it to have to apply a little more often.

My vote right now goes to Adams Buttery Wax. Amazing results on my black Z06.
