Default Polishing out Halo's?

Okay guys I need your help. In my infinite wisdom I took my buffer (Harbor freight special)
with a LCC orange pad and Meguires fine cut polish to my black Corvette. Everything seemed
to look fine until the next day in the sun I saw all these halo's or buffer trails in the hood. How is
the best way to get them out? I have Menzerna final polish with a softer pad, would that work?

My other option is to through this harbor peice-o- out and buy the Porter Cable from autogeek
like everyone else?

Any help or suggestions? My hood looks horrible.

dont know the buffer, so cannot comment. Halo is often what swirls and micromarring is referred to. Usually you would need to move a slightly lighter pad (white) and same polish. If buffer cannot produce enough speed and heat, you might never see any correction however.

Go over it with a lighter polish and pad.

Try Menzerna FP with the softer pad you have and work in small "windows" of 2x2 feet with overlapping passes vertically and horizontally. Take your time and keep your speed in the 1 to 1.5K range. Does your rotary have a speed control.....?
If not don't use too much pressure with your passes.....

If that doesn't do the trick, Order a PC thru Autogeek and that machine will take care of your problem......

The holograms will come out no problem. As others mentioned, use a white pad with your finish polish and run the buffer at low speed - just less than 1 on the dial. A quick pass and they'll be gone. If you don't use smooth, flat strokes or finish at a lower speed, you'll get holograms.

Thanks guys, that’s a relief. So you should finish at a slower speed huh? I'll try that. My
polisher only has numerical settings so I have no idea what speed I am at. It's heavy and I’m
done with it. As soon as I can I'll be ordering the Porter Cable one.

You guys are great, Dust

Slower speed gives you more control and the pad runs smoother. I get holograms once in a while lower door panels if I'm tired - they're operator error.

It's only a 6lb buffer, eat your wheaties man! J/K

Buffer trails are not caused by your machine they are operator error. No offense that is just the way it is. Most, but not all, compounds contain abrassives that need to be broken down before correction is completed. If you do not properly break abrassives down you are left with the dreaded buffer trail.

Try the pyramid
spread at 600 rpm
increase to 900 rpm
move to 1200-1500 rpm
back down to 900 rpm
jewell at 600 rpm

Wipe clean with 50/50 solution ( water/isopropyl alcohol ).
