Default bon-ami for cleaning glass

I read somewhere on here that bon-ami works really good for cleaning glass. I bought some today and am reading the back and it says "do not use on glass or mirrors" So has anyone ever used it on glass? Thanks!

Yes, I have used it in the past and it was just OK. I recommend something like Zaino's Glass polish over the cleanser.

Bon Ami:
There are two kinds of Bon Ami - the cleanser and the powder.

1. The cleanser - is in the round can that you can buy in the supermarket, it contains feldspar, calcite, and soap. It will scratch glass.

2. The powder - contains feldspar and soap, was used to clean the windows in Skylab, and is available in either a rectangular can or as a cleaning cake. You can't get it at the market but have to go to the hardware store or online at http://www.agelong.com.

I use Bon-Ami on my windshields often. Iit really cleans the road film off, and keeps the wipers working smooth. I've never had a problem with it scratching my windshields. Don't use Comet, Ajax, etc. only use Bon-Ami.

True.
Zaino or any other true glass polish is easier to use and less messy than Bon Ami.

If you see 2 on the shelf in a supermarket, I think the one you want is labeled as "The Original" on the can. I forget as I haven't bought it in a while. It will say on the directions that it's safe for glass.

So glass "polish" is more than just a cleaner, like Stoner's? Does it abrade, or just protect/clean? I used my PC on my windshield with some ZPC-Fusion, and it helped smooth things out.....weekly, though, I just use the Stoner's. Is Zaino glass polish more like the ZPC, the Stoner's, or neither?

Zaino and Griot's Garage a very good glass polishes.I'm sure other companies also.
It's not a spray,it's an actual polish that you rub on and towel off.
It cleans road grime, road oil, waterspots etc.No abration that I'm aware of.I've been polishing my vehicles windshields 4-5 times a year for many years without any problems.
I guess ZPC would work too.

This is true, I searched far and wide trying to find a place that carried the powder and not the cleanser. I forget where I finally found it. The reason I searched for it was because I had water spots all over the windows of my 88 vette which wre there when I bought it. They musrt have been etched pretty good since the Bon Ami did not touch them. This was before I knew about Zaino so I cannot draw any comparisons.

The Bon-Ami you may be referring to has the following on the label:

- Professional Formula
- Glass Cleaner
- Cleans and Dries Faster
- No Streaking
- No Ammonia
- Safe for use on PlexiGlass

I picked up a can at a local Tru-Value Hardware store. I had to order it
in special. I thought it was a bit expensive (almost $5 with tax).

You may be aware of the Guru Reports magazine of 2003. I believe
the product above is the successor to the product they reviewed as #1
then called "Glass & Surface Cleaner".

I've been comparing it to my personal favorite, Sprayway. Both do an
execellent job. The Bon-Ami doesn't foam as much as the Sprayway.
You can really smell the ethyl-alcohol in the Sprayway. I don't know if
there is any ethyl-alcohol in the Bon-Ami. There is no content label on
the can. My test continues.

The Zaino Glass Polish (Z-12) is not for everyday use. You need to
supplement your arsenal of products with a cleaner.
